  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

No audio in Rushes. No camera look in L&T. How can we do this?

Okay, we're shooting a large interview & broll project with hundreds of clips. How soon before one of the following solutions works?

Currently:
-If we use L&T mode, we cannot use the "camera look" feature that has our settings from on-set. I have dabbled with the Presets from Red Alert, but they are only okay. From what I understand, curves don't carry over.

-If we use RED Rushes, we can use the "camera look," but there is no audio. Red-Any idea how long before we get audio for this?

If anyone else has done a project like this, please let me know if there is a better way that I'm not thinking that gets audio with the clip. To go back and sync all the audio is not an option...at least not a good option. But I also cringe at the fact that I might have to go back and color correct everything just to get it back to the look we established in-camera, too, when that metadata could be simply carried over with the clip.

Thanks for any help or information...

No ideas from anyone?

I can't imagine that people aren't doing things like we're doing. I can see where syncing would be the normal method for music videos and film...but isn't anyone doing interviews & b-roll type of stuff?

Kevin,

I think compressor might still be your best bet. Unfortunately I think most red workflows are built around the idea of re-accessing raw files after editing is complete, so curves and so forth transferring over is less important for rushes etc.

But Ian, compressor won't carry over the metadata either.

See what they've done: one method is best video, the other is the only way currently to get audio.

If I'm right and there is no other better way, I guess I'll just hope that they add either:

-Metadata "camera look" to the L&T plugin

AND/OR

-Audio passthrough to the Rushes app (I know...on the way, but hopefully soon.)

Ian, I think you are right. We will be re-accessing the 4k when we do spots, films, etc., but not corporate stuff. Hopefully we can find a way to get it close the first time around and then cc in FCP.

Thanks!

Kevin
