Does anyone know why my Sennheiser ew100 and my Epic don´t want to work togheter.

Both of them work fine with other equipment.

Is it because the sennheiser has a stereo mini-jack and the Epic only accepts mono?

Any suggestions welcome.

PROBLEM SOLVED!
Got a mini jack MONO cable instead and now I get audio.

So my Epic didn´t like the stereo mini jack audio cable that came with my Sennheisers.

It's because the EPIC is set up as balanced on a mini jack (which is unusual)

You will need to determine the pin out of your EW100 and use the appropriate cable (may be a custom job)

Have you tried plugging in any other audio devices to see if they work? Because the stereo plug from my EW100 works fine on my Epic. What battery plate are you using?

Hi Matthew, yes I have, I have two ew100 and they work with my older equipment, I have two Epics and neither of them work with the ew100's.

So Hudson if I get an extra mini jack cable, cut it in half and switch the cables inside that would fix this?

Thanks for replying, in a lot of cases the Sennheisers are very useful so I would love to get them working on my Epics.

Hi,
could any one tell me, how to use 1 mono mic on scarlet/Epic? can we choose any left or right mic input?
how do we connect stero mic on to epic/scarlet(camera has seprate mic input. no stero mic in)

Just get an XLR to mini cable and then plug the cable that came with the ew100 into that. I used them today on a shoot in Haiti. Works fine. I haven't tried to go mini from ew100 to min in on epic. That's tricky go min to XLR (cable that came with ew100) and then mini trs to XLR that you can get at amazon or audio store.

That's not what I asked. Have you tried taking something like an iPod with a stereo minijack and tried plugging it into the Epic? If something like that works, then you know it's the cable you are using. I've personally plugged in a regular stereo minijack into my EW100 and then into the Epic and it works just fine. I am guessing that it has something to do with your cable.

I have the EW100 working just fine straight into the Epic. A straight 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo cable will work just fine. Just make sure you set the audio on the epic to Balanced mode.

My mini jack cable works fine with any other equipment, I also tried going from XLR cable into XLR to minijack cables (two of them), I have a Sennheiser microphone (MIKE 300) with a mono mini jack that works fine with my Epic, it´s just the ew100 that doesn´t give any audio (balanced or unbalanced). The solution for now is to carry around a second recorder for audio, I would love to get rid of that.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, if anyone has any more please let me know, thanks!

just want to make sure, that you are in fact changing the audio mode in the menu settings->audio/video->audio channels
the camera does not automatically detect if the cable you plugged in is mono or stereo jack.

if that still doesn't work.... i've no idea:-P

I have a Sennheiser G2 set and I think I remember the included minijack not working with the epic (I just used a regular mini jack cable I had lying around from a set of computer speakers) so I think it must be wired differently.

Correct, a standard mini-mini like you would get at Radio Shack works perfectly.

The Sennheiser CL-1 is their mini-to-mini. It is meant to provide a dual mono signal into a stereo jack, like on a stills camera or a consumer video camcorder. So the same signal is provided to tip and ring on the camera side, i.e. dual mono. This means tip and ring are connected to each other. So yes, it's wired differently from a standard mini-mini.

I have no idea how a previous poster apparently got a CL-1 to work with the RED mini input set to "Balanced." With a CL-1 that should have created a dead short across tip and ring.

Anyway, there is so much contradictory info out about what does and doesn't work, I'm really just going to worry about myself and make my own cables. This way I'll know how my cables are wired and I'll know I'm using the best miniplugs (Neutrik). Some of the contradictory info out there is because adapters with miniplugs are wired many different ways (some even with resistors and capacitors hidden), and miniplugs themselves are primarily a consumer standard, so have greater manufacturing tolerances and less quality control.
