The same strob light CMOS electronic shutter issue like with RED1.

"Nine Inch Nails" Burn Live on stage Melbourne shot on Canon 5D Mark II>>>

Thats great. I am constantly impressed with the 5D, but of coarse it has it's weaknesses.

Less DR than RED
SLOWER rolling shutter than RED
NO manual adjustments in movie mode
Only 1080 30p output

However is is just a herald of Panasonic and Cannons intentions. Red is gonna have a run for it's money soon enough.

RED is gonna get there first, but I suspect cannon or panasonic will not take too long to show up to the party.

There is also a new look to the hand held shot with it. Many new doors are opening.

Wow, the strobe-lights mixed with the rolling shutter make this almost unwatchable. When there's smooth lighting, though, it does indeed look good.

I love my Redone. But I have to say that the strobe CMOS light effect bugs me so much. I lost one gig because of that. (It was a photoshoot). I guess there is a kind of camera for each work and one thing is for sure, Red and 5D are not suited for these kind of concerts. To me the half frame effect is way too much.

I am still seeing the pixelation and aliasing problems on motion that are typical of AVCHD compression with the 5D. The low light sensitivity is great, but the video frame structure is consumer handi-cam quality. Not that that is bad these days. Works quite well for web videos.

not a fan of the 5D's video, but I am a fan of NIN :) Thanks for posting!

You want to see epic level rolling shutter check out the video for wish from the same performance:

That was awful. It is like two line interlaced footage in slow motion. I just see halves ....

I'm sure this has been discussed 2000 times before and even though I know the answer, I'll ask anyway. Is there any way Red One will be able to record those "epileptic-prone-strobes" with future builds? :help:

they haven't been definitive about this, but I think the answer is no. It might continue to improve, but i doubt the issue will go away.

What was this supposed to be? a roadie with a camera? It's not a music video in any sense of he word, it was obviously not shot by anyone with any experience making moving pictures. I just don't get what it's supposed to be.

I don't think that's a major concern for most people who enjoy NIN live. Who cares about what it's supposed to be? It's awesome to get so close whatever it is. The soundmix is very good too.

It was shot by Rob Sheredian. He's been NIN's Art director, photographer, web designer, since 1999. I think the pieces work to give you a sense of being with the band on stage. I doubt they are meant for any sellable medium... promotion and fodder for fans on Vimeo is a great end product.

Cheers to Trent for being super open with all of his music and media. I hope we see more of this.

Maybe i'm just making excuses because I also really enjoy NIN, but I felt that the rolling shutter and artifacting actually added something to it.

It made it feel more harsh and actually fits with the music well.

It's interesting how flaws in a camera system can sometimes add a certain aesthetic to footage.

yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhh

Not for me.
The 5d is sick. It's shutter is fatal.

NIN is top tier. I actually like the operating on this as it does exactly what it's supposed to do. Make me feel like I am there. I don't expect it to be great shots.

RED is working to make a super fast rolling shutter. The R1 shutter is already much fast than the shutter in this footage. Global has odd motion. Film has a rolling shutter. We just need it super fast. The artifacting will be minimal.
