  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nikon to PL mount adapter?

wondering too..

Hi,

The diameter of many PL mounted lenses are too big, even if the engineering challenge could be met to make the FFD of 52 mm.

someone for translating?..

same doubt here.. though take a look on the seller's feedback..

sellers = positive
buyers = negative

seems clear humm?

anyway.. i'm still waiting for a translator for sw's talk..

Here is some SW translation...
What he means that apart from the diameter of the lenses the main problem is that the flange focal distance of the two systems is different.

If you have a PL mount on your camera the FFD is 51,99mm and with Nikon it is 46,5mm. What this means is that you will never get to infinity with a Nikon/PL adapter since the adapter has a physical thickness as well. If you have a Nikon lens you would have to bring it inside the PL mount to reach infinity, in other words this adapter will turn every nikon lens into a Macro lens. (For that purpose it is a very handy tool). BTW I asked the Ebay guy about this issue and he clearly answered that he did not know about this and there is no warranty or return policy......
So the short and long answer is No, you will never reach infinity (or even get close) with a Nikon to PL adapter with nikon lenses on a PL mounted camera.

Can it be useful for Macro work though?

Same quality as any other macro?

1:1 or a lower ratio ?

Yes, very much, I have no idea about the exact ratio, but it is about 1:1. The range to focus is quiet narrow, though (by example between 80 and 40 centimeters) . Most of the tim I just swap nikkors to see what gives me the best results.

Mick speaks the truth.

But, what about a PL to Nikon adapter, for those that want to use their PL lenses on the Nikon N90? Or PL to Canon for that 5D? Now, who is going to make wonderful artistic use of the unique jello effect?

so what about for canon eos - i think diameter is the same

Marginally useful for macro work. It acts pretty much as an extension tube and you have to bring the object in focus through placement. I made up a much more flexible macro bellows by buying a cheap nikon macro bellows from eBay and unscrewing the back nikon mount and replacing it with cheap pl mount (70$) from eBay. About 150$ total.

There is also a Nikon to PL adapter (which will focus to infinity ) that has a 1.4 extender built in. Not that useful because of the stop and quality loss.

I bought one even though I hadn't tested yet.

An adapter to put Nikons onto a PL mount will turn the Nikons into macro lenses. An adapter to put PL lenses onto a Nikon mount probably would never fit because the PL mount is wider than the Nikon so the PL lenses couldn't fit through the Nikon mount. If you could somehow do it the Nikon mount would likely restrict the light passing through the lens.

anyone ever test this? there's one on ebay that i want to get just to try... but not at the price...

I've used an adapter to put Nikon lenses onto a PL mount plenty of times. It creates a great macro.
