I'm as chubbed up as the next guy over finally hearing about the Scarlet except that I have all Nikon glass. I know the Red One has a Nikon mount you can buy, anyone hear any news about the possibility of a Nikon mount for Scarlet down the road?

In another thread Jim said the same Nikon mount that works with Epic will work with Scarlet. About a month ago Jarred said the new Nikon smart mount should be out in a test version November 3rd. I'm in the same Nikon boat with those with Nikon glass waiting for the G lens capable mount for my Epic. I think they are well aware there are many of us waiting, so I won't be slamming my fist down on the table to ask for their kind attention to this matter.

Two companies making them to date...cinemodz ($475) and Optitek($975)...Reds is on the way but from what I read is the smart mount at $2K
cinemodz has a $475 Nikon mount that is approved? Will it accept the G lens? Got a link?

Well if they are looking for Nikon Epic testers, I'm officially applying for the job.

I agree. I think Red wanted to give an additional slap in the face to Canon's announcement and that's why they jumped on the Canon mount first. It gave Canon users a superior option (in my opinion) to the C300 and an easier way to switch to Red without having to buy all new glass. If I had canon glass there would be no way in hell I'd consider the C300 now that Red can use my (theoretical) glass out of the box. I just wasn't sure if the Nikon mount got lost in the multiple announcements.

You can order state of the art positive locking, G-lens iris controlling Nikon mount adapter for Scarlet now...
$1K OptiTek Nikon ProLock adapter

Too bad they didn't think to offer a Scarlet-X package with an optional Nikon dumb mount for those with Nikon glass. Doesn't seem like that would have been too difficult for them to do. That Canon and PL mount only packages stopped me dead in my tracks when I was considering what to do last night.

Buy the basic package with Canon, get your Nikon from the third party(optitek) and sell your canon mount if you want- it works on the Epic as well.
I bet you won't sell it however - it's too tempting to be both Nikon and Canon compatible

If all you want is a dumb mount then just throw some Nikon to EOS adapters on your lenses. No need to drop $1000 on a new mount.

Multiple adapters on hi res cameras

Multiple adapters on hi res cameras

Good luck trying to focus your lenses with multiple adapters on a 5K camera:001_tongue:
I do that with ProLock...
This is not your mother's camcorder(or DSLR)- you need film camera precision..:nonod:
How many blown focus shots would it take to pay for proper mount- I guess that's the real question.
If it's just playing with friends- doesn't matter.
But if it's a paid job- your job and maybe career depends on it- your choice...

Hi OptiTek,

Well, that might work if my budget was not as tight and I was confident I could sell the Canon mount immediately. Anyone know what that AL Canon mount would go for ? It is not listed separately in the store.

See now, you got me fidgeting with "what if" scenarios again. :-)

I would totally buy your AL canon mount! Especially if you get your Scarlett soon enough! I'll send you a PM
