  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nikon mount for Scarlet X?

Gene,

Since you live in Los Angeles, get in touch with Optitek to see the Epic Nikon "Positive Lock" mount. I have the one for my Red One, and love it. Beautifully made and my best accessory. No need to "declick" the lenses, full iris control. If you are near Universal Studios, PM me and I will show you the R1 Optitek mount.

I am still unsure which mount to order from RED if I am going with OptiTek, can someone please clarify, thanks :)

Order whichever you might find handy in addition to your Nikon mount - probably PL if it were me. And, maybe, whichever is going to hold up your order the least.

Sounds like i'm going PL, with OptiTek, and this will work with all my FX lenses correct? Getting psyched and ready to put down my deposit.

The Optitek ProLock mount will work with all Nikon lenses, (AI-S, D, G, FX, DX). It will control the iris on all Nikon lenses except for the new PC-E lenses. (These are the first lenses Nikon has ever made that do not have mechanical iris control.) It has a very solid positive locking system that may well be the inspiration for the RED locking mechanism, and it is approved by RED, so it will not void your warranty. It is not an adapter, it replaces the mount on your camera, just as the RED Canon mount does.

(I sound like a salesman here, but I have no affiliation with Optitek other than being a very satisfied user.)

Because RED's mounts are the best. Period. I want their locking mechanism, which is also the reason I refuse to use any adapters. Sooo much rotational slop.

Good point. I *say* I'll be happy with an EOS adapter on the Nikon 14-24mm for now; let's see how it works first! If there are alignment/focal distance issues...

Mike
