  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nikon Mount for Red EPIC (Zess ZF)

I have the Optitek Nikon mount on my Epic, and I find its aperture control to be an intuitive choice over the aperture ring on my ZF's because it protrudes. No likelihood of confusion in my opinion.

Hey guys, have you considered the Lietax adapters?

They are removable but totally rock solid mods to the ZF lenses that changes the mount to Canon. Duclose highly recommends them. I have a set of ZFs that I will be sending to Duclose to have installed. You can also do the conversion yourself. Plus its reversable if you want to later sell your ZFs.

The Ti Canon mount gives you an incredibly solid intelligent mount. And with Canon adapted mounts on a ZF lens you can switch between Canon and Zeiss glass anytime. The Red Canon mounts will give you a lot of options that you won't get from Optitek.

sounds strange to say the least...
First buy Nikon mounted ZFs
Buy and install adapters to Canon EF
Mount the ZFs with Canon adapters on Canon mount.
Why not just buy Zeiss ZEs and use them on canon mount?
You'll skip three steps and a lot of expenses...

I may be using the mount with my Leica R lenses (with Nikon mounts) and I dont think that the mounts aperture control will control Leica R lenses. You have to use the aperture control on the lens itself.

ZE's don't have a manual iris. And this thread was about Nikon mount lenses, right?

ZE iris can be controlled from the camera. I thought that was the main advantage of having smart Canon mount. With adapter there is no smart mount- big drawback IMO...
