Hi,
I got the AL Nikon Mount today. Nice piece... and quite solid! (even more robust than I thought).

But there`s one thing that screws me up: the autofocus

Well, the lenses I`m using aren`t listet here, but probably there should be other lenses which are able to support the AF even if they aren`t listet.

I can`t get the AF running with following lenses:
Nikkor AF-S 17-35 1:2,8D
Nikkor AF 80-200 1:2,8D

Who ownes those lenses, too?
And what`s about the AF capabilities in your case?

Thanks for replies!

"Mechanical driven" means that the AF motor isn`t inside the lens but inside the camera?
If so:
I can`t see anything that indicates that the lens is driven by a motor inside a Nikon camera.
If I rotate the focus ring manually there is nothing moving at the mount of the lens as it is when changing the aperture manually.
That means, in my understanding, that the AF motor is inside the lens and just controlled by the EPIC via the electrical contacts of the mount and should be able to work with the EPIC?

I also have the 17-35 and 80-200 and neither one work with the auto-focus of the Red Nikon Alum mount. Neither does my 85,, 1.4, 50mm 1.4 or Tokina 11-16. The only lens that works fully with the mount is my Nikon 18-200 G lens (worst lens in the bunch).

Hi Dan,
well, we got the Nikkor AF-S 18-300 1:3,5-5,6G today and... it doesn`t work.
I thought it should be the same as with your 18-200 G.

Do you have access to an 18-300 G? Or an info if the AF is running with that lens?
Maybe there is a hidden trick which I don`t know? ;)

My 2 200 VRII, not in the list, works great for focus and iris. The focus is a bit slow but works great.

Don't have an 18-300. Did you check your menu setting to make sure the focus isn't set to manual?

hey

hey

What do you do the Nikon lenses that don't have aperture rings? I own no glass at all but my buddies got a bunch of Nikon. So far I can change the F stop only on the ones with rings on them and two of his lenses don't have rings and we have no clue how to change the F stop with them. They are his newer Nikons if anything he told me, the ones he typially uses, but all the old ones work like a gem... So I was just wondering if there is some trick to this I don't know or something...

Thanks!!!

Hi Brian,

Nikon lenses without aperture ring have to be controlled via the camera. You will have to install the latest beta firmware, as the nikon mount support was only implemented there yet.
Also be careful with older lenses, there are some fast AI(s) lenses that have a long pin at their rear side (at least these: 20/2.8 24/2.0 35/1.4 50/1.2 55/1.2) that prevent them to be used without modification.

Cheers

Ulf

I downloaded the beta firmware, but not sure where in the menu I go to control the F stop. Also the two lenses I have access to that don't have rings might not be on the list of supported ones yet, I have to double check on that. I will be careful with the older glass, what happens if I go to put one in by mistake? Does it get in and get stuck, or does it not go in? Thanks!

Brian, f-stop control should be via touchscreen next to the shutter control, just like with the canon mount and EF lenses. The control is greyed out when there is no lens installed or may be the lens is not recognized and not (yet) in the bunch of approved lenses. You will feel which of the older lenses won´t fit, they cannot be turned to lock. While I don´t expect them to get stuck they might leave a mark on the inside of your mount.
Good luck! Cheers, Ulf

Ah, I got it!
AF works fine with the 18-300 G

Thanks, guys!

Hi
Can anyone help. I have been using all my Nikon glass on a Canon Ti mount with a novoflex adaptor. Then I was delighted to see a nikon mount! I got it and only one or two lenses work. 24-70 2.8 (focus not goog) - 50 1.4 (focus not great). My VR2 70-200 2.8, 17-35 2.8, 35 2.0 Tokina 11-16 don't work. I now have to go back to canon mount with novoflex adaptor.
Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for your help!

Cathal
