Hi,

It may be a dummy question sorry for that:love:

I have Nikon D300 and i love it especially how it responds in low light conditions. I bought it just because it has almost similar sensor size as RED. My RED has not arrived yet but i really wondering how red respond in low light situation.

So i am thinking a test;
If i set my Nikon to ISO 320, Shutter speed 1/50 and shoot something in low light. Do you think that RED with 320 ISO and 1/50 shutter speed will respond in same way.It means pictures will almost be similar?

Or ask in the different way. Does Nikon d300 and RED has same dynamic range?

I've been shooting with this combination all summer - Red and D300. I have about 17TB of footage and still have not gotten into the thick of full post flow yet, but the test I've done have worked well. Seeing the D300, in my case, is used for timelapse I'm not worried about matching perfect-el-maximo, but what I've seen does blend nicely. Also, using the same set of Nikon glass on both cameras is nice.

Also - long exposures at night on the d300 are amazing. Red doesn't come close in that particular area.

17TBs? What are you working on, my friend? :)

I find them to be pretty close. The sensor in the D300 has a cleaner response to lower color temperatures, but otherwise it's a close match. The sensor size is nearly identical (horizontally) and it's great to carry the super light d300 to do location scouting and even some storyboard framing with the same Nikon lenses you shoot on your Red. I think it's a great camera, though I'm hearing that the D90 is about 90% of what the D300 is for $700 less so that might be worth exploring too.

Hi Josh,

Have you tried the comparison at a higher ASA, 1600 or above?
