  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nikon AFS 14-24 How do you set the aperture with Red

I once used a small piece of tape to hold the little iris control lever open :). Not something I'd recommend though... tape isn't something you would ever want to risk peeling off and coming in contact with your sensor! Now I have an Optitek Prolock mount that I'm very happy with.

I use my Tokina 11-16 (with Nikon mount), and Nikon 14-24, on RED One with the Underdahl Long Valley mount - with god results. There is a small twisting brass knob sticking out from the lower side of the mount. You simply twist that knob to increase or decrease aperture. My 11-16 and 14-24 are stock lenses - not cinevized.

Other non-G Nikon lenses with aperture rings work just fine on the Long Valley mount too. With the lenses that have an aperture ring, you simply turn the ring as you normally would.

I haven't used the OptiTek Pro Lock mount.

I just wrapped a 4 week shoot. I used the Optitek Pro Mount and don't ever want to go back. You can not only control the iris on DX lenses. but AiS lenses as well. Can't recommend it highly enough.
