  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nikon 20mm 1.8

Between the Tamron 15-30mm and this, it looks like the market for full frame wide F-mount lenses is filling out nicely. I'm looking forward to seeing these in action.

Aww, but I love my 20mm 1.8 Sigma! Lol! Well I'm very interested in this too, it never hurts to have a new wide angle prime for full frame. The next prime I was looking at getting was a Rokinon cine 14mm, although the Zeiss 15mm is amazing. But not too many moments call for super wide angle so this new 20mm could fit the bill if it's really all that much better than the Sigma.

My copy of the Sigma was essentially unusably soft, but I have grown fond of "weird" lenses like the 24mm f2 AIS, which is also awful. The 24mm f1.4 Rokinon might never grow on me; it's less bad but in a boring way though still fast and cheap for FF. I might re-visit the Sigma and hate its performance but appreciate its character so nothing against it.

Strongly recommend against the 14mm Rokinon for video, though. Awful distortion with a weird mustache pattern. Unusable, IMO, if there are straight lines in frame. Maybe a good skateboarding lens, though. I found the 14mm f2.8 Canon SUPERB for video, but it is too expensive. Not sure why the bad reputation. The 11-16mm is my choice for cheap and it should be good at 14mm on APS-H almost good on FF, a little more distortion than the 14mm Canon but sharp and not much distortion, weird flares.

That this Nikon is gelded makes it a bit of a nonstarter for some, but it does look like an awesome wide for people who need speed and coverage on FF or 6k. Review looks promising. LOVE WA macro and adding speed on top of that is great. If I had a smart Nikon mount I'd be tempted but the 18-35mm f1.8 Sigma is fine since I only shoot S35 video.
