  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

nikon 20-35 f 2,8 on R1

That lens is quite old..... I would go for the 17-35/ F2.8. It is my workhorse ever since I bought it. I find 20 mm often not wide enough. Again.....it depends what you use it for.
If I can only choose 1 lens to bring with me, I would choose that lens without thinking!

what is "REAL" wide od 20 mm nikon on red one? thank's

The mx sensor is S35, so compared to a full frame, it has a crop of 1.3x
17-35mm = 22.1-45.5mm
20-35mm = 26-45.5mm
28-70mm = 36.4-91mm

1.3 is the Epic Crop Factor (wider than Super 35). Isn't RED ONE more like 1.5? (Super 35).

But again, "crop factor" refers to how it "would look" on a 5D.

If you are used to SUPER 35 focal lengths, then the lens is a 20 to 35 period. The lens's FOV doesn't get "tighter" just because its a full frame lens. Remember a "50" is a "50" is a "50.

My Hasselblad 50 2.8 (4x the size of Super 35) has the exact same FOV as any other 50 I own.

Hope this helps!

Hi Szymon

I had this lens for a while on my RED One and then on the Epic too.
But although it performed very well, it was not wide enough and not tele enough to be my "always on" lens.

Then I bought the Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 and never looked back.
In my eyes if you are a Nikon guy, that is your No. 1 must have lens.

But then again you could go with the new Sigma 18-35 f1.8 and also be very happy.

I use Jacek's Optitek Epic - Nikon mount - it is a great mount, but it is DSMC. I believe there are also good mounts out there for the R1 but I have never used that camera. I am sure a quick search would turn up a few.
