Anyone try the Nikon 17-55mm on the Epic. I realize it has a smaller image circle, but I also read it was a little larger image circle then the standard DX. Wondering if it may work as the Tokina 11-16mm does on the 5k sensor. Been wanting to test it, but haven't had a chance yet.

It works. There may be very slight vignetting at 5K FF at 17. Just did some informal tests of real world scenes and was shooting 2:1, 2:41 5K mostly and didn't shoot vignetting tests at 5K. But I think it does better than then the orig Red 18-50 in that regard.

I've been using the 17-55 for several years now on my RED One. Don't know about 5k coverage, but I can tell you, that it's so sharp it will cut your eyeballs. Really, been thinking about 1/8 Promist as a must for leading lady type close ups, or else it's just too much.

i was going to post that the Tokina 11-16 does not cover 5k...but now i think i used another lens....not to way off topic, but can anyone actually say the 11-16 does cover 5k FF with no vignetting? and not at 13 or 14mm...it either does or does not.

The Tokina 11-16 does vignette at 11mm, 5k FF, but not by much. Sounds like the Nikon 17-55 is much the same (I'm about to try one out as well). The Tokina is entirely useable though, just not at 11mm. I'm interested in how the Canon 17-55 f2.8 covers as well. Anyone know?

I should clarify that my Tokina 11-16mm is a Nikon F-Mount version and was on my Epic-M with an Optitek mount.

Both of these lenses cover the full 5K sensor on Epic. And both vignette at 5K full sensor when at their widest focal lengths. But so do almost all wide, fast lenses. Lens reviews sometimes refer to this as uneven field illumination. (The $4,600 Zeiss 15mm ZM lens for Leica rangefinders even includes a center filter to compensate for the vignetting.)

As a practical matter, both of these lenses are very useable at 5K full-sensor. And both are very sharp throughout their range.

For your reference, i'm posting a set of images of a flat sheet of foam core shot at 5K full sensor on Epic. All are shot wide open. The focal length is noted on the frame. The reduction in size from the full 5K frame exaggerates the vignette a bit.
