Hey Guys,

I'm sure there's a post on here somewhere about this, if so please point me to it. Has anyone used a Nikon 17-55 AF ED on a Scarlet. Is it worth getting the Nikon adapter just for this lens ( I already own it ) or is there a better piece of glass I can get for $800 ( or $2200 if I wanna drop kick my camera ). I have both The Canon and PL mounts. Love this lens, but don't wanna waste money on a mount for 1 lens.

Hi Chris

I have this lens. It pretty much stays on my Epic all the time. Sharper than my AIS primes, but if you close it way down (iris) it gets less sharp. Holds focus throughout the range to about 4 inches which is workable for narrative, which is what I use it for. Just a great, all around range. It's tough, too. I had it on my Red One from 2008, no problems.

If you are looking for a good inexpensive mount, might I suggest http://www.longvalleyequip.com/lensmount.php

Not as long of reach or as wide , but the sigma 18-35 f1.8 is a stunner and its also $800, and available in canon mount, and two suppliers are doing a PL mod for more $

never mind, read what you wrote. Yeah, Doug's mount seems like a smart choice.

Cool, thanks guys. Doug do you have that mount? I'm always nervous about third party stuff.

Yeah, I make that mount and I make the current Nikon mount for Red One sold by Red.

I came up with my Nikon mount for Epic and Scarlet when Red said they just didn't know when their electronic mount would be available - then about two months later they had them for sale!

So I have this all manual, stainless locking mount available at a rock bottom price.

I think I might get the Sigma 18-35 if I need that extra stop, no doubt about it.

I bought the Nikon 17-55 about 3 years ago based on Doug Underdahl's recommendation. It was a great purchase. While my copy doesn't hold focus through the zoom, it is crazy sharp. Since I use it as a variable prime, not being parfocal isn't a big deal for me. If you don't already have a Nikon mount, since Doug's mount is only $295, it is nuts not to get one IMHO.

The 17 55 is a great lens. Some copies hold focus through range some don't. Test and fine a good one.

Anything Doug makes is very dependable.

Lol, Sorry Doug. I'll just grab one of those and call it a day. Thanks everyone for all the great input!

If you are going to go with an adapter, you may want to think about getting the Fotodiox version. Some of the Chinese adapters will lock onto your lens and not come off. The Fotodiox costs more, but it is precision made. You can see one here:http://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Pro-...ywords=Fotodiox+PRO+Nik+G+-EOS+Nikon+to+Canon

The Novoflex adapters are even better. But, they cost about as much as Doug's mount.
