I am having a little trouble mounting a NIKKOR-S 50mm onto my Scarlet-X via 2 different Nikon to EOS mounts. Does anyone know if these lens even work with the EF mount? It doesn't seem to flush correctly and I don't want to force it , because I am afraid of damaging the contacts. HERE is the exact lens. ( http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/50f14nai.htm) I have a few of these Nikkor-S lenses and NONE of them are mounting. If you have had luck, Which adapter are you using? I am using a Novoflex adapter and a cheap Ebay one which is similar to the Cinevate version. THANKS!

Nikon to EOS is definitely possible. Are you using well-made adapters, or cheap crap from eBay?

Yes, I have had no trouble in the past with these adapters, The problem is mounting them onto the Scarlet....

They have worked on my 7D , but wont mount onto the Scarlet. Its almost like the Nikkor-S lens protrudes too far into the mount.

I am using 2. a Novoflex EOS adapter that was like 269.00 and a Cheap Ebay version that was about 19$. The cheap Version is similar to the Cinevate adapter.

ruh-roh... I'm going Nikon lenses with an adapter to Canon mount (when it arrives), and I had assumed it would work. Can anyone else share their personal experience with Nikkors on a Canon-mount scarlet or epic?

EDIT: Chad, any chance it has to due with the positive lock system? This is one area the mount differs from standard Canon cams.

I am not sure, All I know is that if you look a the any of the Nikkor-S Manual Focus lenses (24, 35, 50 , 110 ) . They have a piece of metal about an 1/8th inch sticking out that looks like it potentially touches the electronic contacts inside of the Scarlet mount. Another interesting thing is that they wont mount on the 5D either: Same issue. But they have NO issues mounting on the 7D , which has more room inside of the mount for that little additional metal lip that sticks inside of the mount.

Are you talking about the aperture lever? Is it possible to take a photo to point out the suspect part?

No, not the Aperture lever. It's this piece circled in red. Sorry , its all I could find online, but you can clearly see the piece that is sticking out excessively .

Oh, I see. Definitely looks like it would get in the way, but luckily (perhaps not for you) it seems to be isolated to the Nikkor-S series. Thanks for posting the photo.

Looks like the flange. Some CY Zeiss lenses have the same problem. My hunch is that it is nothing that a good metal file or dermal tool and a magic marker can't fix.

Bill, Got it! THANKS!

Started filing down the edge down last night with a Dremal, but thought I would post before I totally annihilate that metal piece, so I will try it out and let you guys know for sure

Thanks for the responses guys!

Yeah looking at the profile picture views of all the other Nikons available online, its the only family of lenses with this issue. Definitely good to know before going on an eBay spree for old Nikkor glass =)

Just an update for all of you potential EOS to Nikkor-S lens users: I took Bills advice and sanded that metal piece down so the back of the lens barrel is now flushed with the mount and it mounted PERFECTLY and looks great! Kinda ghetto but OH WELL!
