Hi everyone,

I've got 2 x Redrocket systems and normally I transcode files with looks saved/applied for each scene. But I had a DP over the other day who corrected each clip and saved the RMD files in the same folder as the clip.
We had numerous crashes throughout the day and now when I open the clips/saved project sometimes the .rmd looks are applied and sometimes not.
I did notice a .RMD saved in addition to 11 or so .RMD.bak files with each clip.
Could the .bak files be the culprit?
Can I delete them?
Thanks,

Brian

They are just backup files, and safe to delete. As to whether they are causing a crash or not, please turn on verbose logging and restart the application. Send the log file to redcinex at red dot com.

Thanks David.

Just had the DP in for a re-color. All clips appeared to have the .rmd file attached (automatically save RMD enabled in prefs). I saved the project before outputting.
But on output to ProRes RCX crashed. Now none of the looks he created for each clip are attached to the file. Either in the original clip or in the project we saved. It seems to just open metadata.
When I look at each clip in finder. they have an .rmd created seemingly at the time of correction this morning (11am etc) but there are up to 12 x BAK files with much older dates.
Going to email a log now.
And hopefully I can recover the looks he just spent hours creating.
Thoughts anyone?

Hi David,

Interesting! Not that I know of. I'm not using an external application to view/edit RMDs, but I do have several versions of RCX on my computer. Could this be the problem perhaps?
Although I did rent my tower out last month, and did notice they installed clipfinder. Although I haven't opened or used Clipfinder.
Thank you,

Brian

Ok, removed my last post because it was incorrect. I've been informed that we do actually create .bak files so we don't lose a .rmd in the case of failure.

So with that established, I'm guessing you don't have the correct permissions to that particular disk to allow RCX to remove the backup files when no longer needed.

PS. Despite working on RCX from Day One, its getting quite large and even I sometimes miss everything that's going on! Apologies for the earlier misinformation!

No problem. Thanks for the info.
I repair my disk permissions regularly, but perhaps my system disk is the issue. If I find out further I will repost.
Thanks,

Brian
