  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nexto DI

Speaking of the "Tools" section... I am one for being a "noob" and not searching this beforehand.

Blame the iPhone.

Nah; blame me.

That version can't playback R3D files. They were at the REDUser party asking for help. They are trying to use the SDK, but I guess it does not have the support they require. They were hoping REDUsers could help them plead with RED for help.

I use a Nexto DI myself and love it.

We just ordered the Nexto 2500, does anyone know if this will preview R3D files?

No, it won't.

I'm rather doubtful it has the computing power to ever be able to preview R3D files, considering it struggles to display DVCPROHD footage. You can see it and know what your clips are, but it's certainly not enough to give you any idea of the quality of your footage.

Hey thanks!
We ordered it anyway :)

I have brought it to RED's attention but keep in mind they are extremely busy and have a lot of resources tied up in other areas. In order to make this work, the Nexto would need to work with the smallest proxy and probably wouldn't play at full frame rate would be my guess. This means Nexto getting the SDK and working with RED to implement it. The display on the Nexto is very low res and is only useful in determining that your 1s and 0s are actually video data. That alone is very useful info. When using these devices, you are usually making a compromise between portability and complete data management feature set. I really like the 2500. It is very reliable and I do trust it enough to use as a primary backup in certain situations, even without the R3D/QT playback.

Well that would be a great tool if we can at at least see a thumbnail. The I/O check is mostly why we got it. In most cases the unit will be attached to a MBP (I know overkill) just in case. The 2500 is being shared with our Digital Photographer so it will get used.
For those that care, we picked up the 2500 as oppose to the 2525 (their new one) due to the CF card option has been moved from within the body of the 2500 and placed as a CF adaptor style. They switched it between the P2 and CF. We dont use any P2 here....ahem RED ;)
