  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

News...

It is quiet now. It will be quiet for a bit.

We are shipping EPIC-Xs now on a fairly good clip and that will accelerate as we move along.

REDCINE-X Professional has released and there will be regular updates. Lots of cool stuff coming. Free as usual.

We are letting everyone else get their announcements out. Letting the dust settle.

Then expect an explosion. A really big one.

I have to chuckle with some of the releases coming out now. You thought we were a "hype machine"?

If you bought a RED ONE in 2006 (for $17,500), you got many free firmware upgrades and then a paid sensor upgrade (MX for under $6K). So you were in a 4K camera (same one that shot The Social Network) for $23,500. If you had a Sony 950 in 2006 and tried to stay current, you would have bought an F23, an F35 and soon an F65. Total well over $500K with recorders. Or you could have bought an Arri D20, then a D21 and then an Alexa for the same amount. And you wouldn't have a "future proof" camera until you took delivery of the F65.... a few months from now. Did I mention upgrade program to EPIC?

Sony's newest claim is that they "Aim to achieve the absolute #1 position with CMOS sensors". Good luck with that. I guess we should be flattered because it implies that they are not there now... and maybe we are just sitting on our hands. Sounds like a challenge. We accept.

While I have committed to not announce anything until it is ready, please expect us to have your back and be ahead of the pack.

Jim

Looks like Sony is trying to goose the stock price.

Reminds me when the head of Sony Engineering with his Sony EX-1 coming out had never heard of RED at the DV Expo and said it was impossible to do 4k... then I showed him a naughty RED hard drive company showing RED's 1st 4k footage that got them in trouble and got Sony to eat #$@#.... Like RED, I love watching the ignorant get enlightened. Jim, I look forward to a first Scarlet as I was #217 and passed since sound was not working. Ironically I went for an ex-1 that did the job... but I hate the crappy plooming sunsets... so redemption time is here - show me the Scarlet - I will shoot it like no other. 8-)

Sounds incredible, there has been shd before Red, which is near 4k. Even Sony's sensor used in the Casio f1 (was it?) was close. Not saying I disbelieve, but what 4k qualities for whom did he mean.

pussy :)

heh heh heh.
I chuckle everytime I go by this post. Where in the world would you find a future fortune 500 company #2 who would respond publicly in this fashion? In a conventional company, the press would make a big deal out of this as a sign the corporation had lost its aloofness and was out of control. With Red, it's a sign that the company mingles with its customers and joshes them without fear of being misunderstood.

This kind of attitude has very likely firewalled the company against any valid media nit-picky, fault-finding, slanted attacks for the foreseeable future.

Red just seems to keep on getting it right.

I have to admit, I sometimes imagine what would happen if Jarred and Ted changed jobs for a year. We'd have some seriously quotable stuff there.

With all due respect, isn't this Sony ad for their Semiconductor business? I don't think this is for cameras -- it's just for CMOS pickups. I think they'll OEM to anybody who wants to build still or motion picture cameras.

I think they make the sensors in all the iphone and ipad cameras. That alone is pretty huge.

They do not. Some low-end OEM company has been Apple's supplier for ages but the next iPhone and iPod Touch designs are said to be using Sony silicon since the other company apparently can't keep up with Apple's demands for larger supply chains.
