The Foundry, together with a dedicated group of alpha testers, have been working hard over the past few weeks to make sure that STORM hits a good point before going to initial public beta. Unfortunately, today, we don't believe we're there, with a few too many issues that would trip you up. We want to iron out the worst of these before asking everyone to invest their time taking a first look.

We still expect to make the release in November and won't keep you waiting too much longer. We're sure that most of you with experience of developing software will appreciate how difficult it is to predict the final stages of moving from alpha to beta, especially a public one.

Our alpha testers have reported we are building a well designed product with the right features and an exciting future. We're keen to get an initial beta out so that you can all test what we have done and participate in planning the missing pieces to get to a first full release early next year.

We'll keep you up to date as we make progress.

Chris, look who you are talking to. If you think a couple of weeks waiting for your sure to be awesome software will be a problem for those of us on Reduser, you are mistaken. We get it, and we patiently wait in anticipation for Storm. Thank you for your candor.

Looking forward to Nov....Chris-would love to see some archival; recall ability. Not only for R3d, but any digital data that we may soon be able to bring into Storm. Archival in order to call up any past shot footage...say a clip of something for future use.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm looking forward to the beta release and putting this app to use. It looks very promising. :)

nice
... Thanks

Any news to tell about STORM for Windows? I'm gagging for it. Wait, that didn't come out right.

Hi Petri, we're very aware that the call for Windows is far higher than we expected. We've built STORM cross platform, so it is possible. We'll stabilise what we have and make sure it provides the basic set of functionality, then move on to the port. Hope the wait isn't too much!

I think it's the best decision for now. The Foundry is doing an incredible job with Storm but as an alpha tester I can say the software is awesome but it need to be improved before going to beta. Keep up the good work The Foundry!!

Having developed commercial software before I am very aware of how unpredictable this process is. My version 1.0 release went through a year of beta testing after close to a year of alpha testing. Version 2.0 is approaching two years of development and no public beta yet.

I would absolutely love to test even a buggy version just because that's the kind of thing that thrills me. In any case though, anxiously awaiting the public beta release!

Take your time, do it right, in the end we'll all thank you for it!

Thanks Chris.

Just wondering how many of you/ us plan on using the Euphonix with Storm.

Mark

Mark

I have been using it all during the Alpha stage.
I also have the Tangent Wave but I do like the MC Color
A bit better for feel and customization of hot keys.
Right now MC Color is currently the only supported panel in Storm for now at least.

After a decade on mac's, I'm seriously considering a move to PC, premiere, decklink and cineform.

The biggest reason I hesitate is your upcoming STORM.

STORM is/will be coming for Windows eventually. It's just a matter of getting the Mac version released and stabilized first.

I'm on the alpha list too and all I can say is that you guys will want STORM. It's shaping up to be great. I can understand the delay on the public beta, there are some issues. I caught a new bug in the version released earlier today, and they logged it. It's progressing though and it looks like it will be great.
