  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

News from Cool Lights

Great price point for your products Richard.
Can you tell me what the CRIs for the LED lights are?
I couldn't find them. I see they ship with minus green
so im guessing they have the usual LED green spike.
thanks in advance

PAR LED on the field

PAR LED on the field

Hi,

Here is a jpeg from a scene lit with 2 PAR Led600 and 1 Z light. The camera is "only" a JVC 200. color temp preset 5600, not any color correction or anything.

- 1 PAR LED for the face
- On the left, windows with natural light
- On the right, Z light for the backlight on a manfrotto suction, just behind the person
- 1 PAR Led on the left at 90°

All powered with battery 99W, less than 10 kg for all the lights and accessories... Maybe the CRI is not 100... I don't mind.

Another image with PAR LED 600

Another image with PAR LED 600

Again from JVC 200 with 2 PAR LED 600 on battery.

No backlight (natural light). Something like 45° between the axis of the cameras.
I go often alone with 2 cameras, sound equipment (a pair of sennheiser HF), lights (2 PAR LED600 and a Zlight) and an electric powered trolley through France and outside.

I am waiting for 10 PAR LED 600 more for my set and for the "big" Red

JD,

The CRI actually is marked on the "Specifications" Tab. Its 80 for the daylight panels and 85 for the tungsten colored ones. That's going to go up to 90 with the new bi-color 1200 and 2400 when they come out.

Olivier,

Looks great to me. Doing good work there.

Thanks for that...
Specifications...go figure. Sigh. anyway...

90 is in the zone for sure.

So, has anyone picked up the new 1200w par? Anxious to see some reviews, really anxious to add two to my inventory.

Well I'm getting the 1200 right first, then we'll use what we do there to finish the 2400 like I want to. The 1200 is coming along very well though. I'm bringing it to the states on my coming trip. I'll be in L.A. with the prototype later this month.

Sweet.

I use your 4 bank Flos and LED600s every day:

Hehe, you're prepared then. Picture a cross between the two. Something about the same size as the CL-455P (but thinner), a bit lighter and filled with LEDs instead of reflectors and flo tubes. There you go.

I'm glad I found this thread so now I can put my 2 cents in. First, it seems this thread started as a general update on Cool Lights but quickly turned into a thread about Cool Lights LED lighting.

I agree with everything Richard said about Flolights vs. Cool Lights. I just purchased the LED 1000 from Flolight and I really wish I would have researched these lights better. The Cool Lights seem like they're really well thought out.

Thanks everyone for putting in your opinions and samples.

Much appreciated.

I will be ordering one as soon as I get a credit card for my US account where i have some money already transferred at a higher rate than I can get today....

LED 600 spot with soft box vs LED 600 flood (with a difuser maybe)..

What differences should I expect between these two configurations. I know that mostly I will need soft lights, but sometimes hard lights are needed. So I was thinking if I get a spot, I can get both hard light, and soft light (with softbox).

Yes, the spot is most efficient to use if you want to use the softbox. The flood can work but is a bit too weak in my opinion to be used with the softbox. Better to use the flood by itself when you want a harder look.

So is this right?
1- Hardest light = spot
2- Medium light = flood
3- Softest light = spot with soft box

We have access to them but there just hasn't been much demand to tell the truth. We even could get 5Ks for that matter.

I think once most people realize they can't use a 2K or above on normal 15 amp circuits (in the US) they lose interest.
