T minus 2:30hs and counting...

you know your emoticons.
But that looks more like a smiley getting hit in the head with an arrow
I imagine a broad 'I see the light grin' with a bulb equiv of a 3k fresnel above him ... nothing else would do

Hehe... Yes, I love them. I once looked for some emoticons with production lights, cameras, dollies and such... couldn't find anything. Not a single motion camera, just stills.

There's a buzz that Canon is introducing something at the 26th of April (about certain frame rates or manual controls in a certain full frame DSLR- source dvxuser.com) . I'm sure Jim and the Red team are aware of this, so I'm really looking forward to what the "everything changes, again" comment from Jim trully means... in a couple of hours! Man, aren't these exciting times? :)

I think it would be funny if Jim and the gang were just out getting wasted and forgot about us.

is this in relation to their 5D?

Haha... Canon set up that lingerie convention at the Rio to get them sidetracked. Good try, but it is going to take several more Canon... unlike you Red puts their $$ into the actual cameras.

Such a useless post... as many others lately... T minus 2hs and counting...

ARE WE THERE YET?

I'm not threadjacking this! You can search the website www.dvxuser.com (sister community of Reduser) on the 5d mark II forums for more info.

I'm looking forward to how Red can trully respond to a potential full frame competitor on a very low price range. True, its merely a DSLR, but its a DSLR with incredible video, low light, and if it comes up with both 25p and manual controls, it will prove to be a competing product to "part" of the DSMC concept. But I'm sure RED knows this and will give us the goods in a couple of hours! :)

I don't think Red sees the need to go into the affordable compressed Pro-Summer market. Not yet. What they have are professional high end cameras that record RAW at higher resolutions.

If you want something close to it you can get a 2/3" fixed which will give you quite a bit of shallow DoF with the right lenses. If that's not enough then get a Canon/Nikon/Prosumer+DoF adapter and work with what those can offer. If that is good enough great, if it isn't then consider Red's other cameras.

So, to the folks in Vegas, has anyone seen Santa on the radar yet?

The 5D2 video may look superficially good, but as soon as you try to color correct it, it really falls apart, and it's not just me that sees that. It's what others tell me when they try to use it. h264 is great for many things, but it's no where near optimum for image capture or acquisition. Just look at what h264 was designed for...

Yup, that's basics video editing 101. How hard is that to get? I mean, 12bit REDCODE we all know looks amazing, and 8bit h264 just looks... And it's inherently just painful to edit with.

Agreed. never worked with RED yet, but hope to do so with the release of the scarlet.

h.264 just can't be used to edit even with the best computer out there. You would want to transcode it to some better format to edit.

Graeme, for the record, your plugins have saved our butts more than once and when we heard you were with RED, it became serious.

It's not that it can't be transcoded to something useful, but that it just doesn't have the range to grade or work with.

Thanks Paul. That's always appreciated!
