  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Newer V-Mount Options?

Requires Too Much Maintenance

I want to like these because they are Anton Bauers but they have some serious issues. According to AB, they must remain on the charger at all times when not in use. If you take them off they start to lose power within a day and drop fairly rapidly. Also they lock up at a the charge level and can take several hours to unlock and start charging. So to use these batteries, you need to have a charge port for every single one and they have to be on 24/7. Costly in chargers and not exactly "green". Otherwise love the side power display and that the power tap is on the battery itself

Verified above review

I thought this sounded off, but you do in fact have to leave them on a charger and charging when not in use.

Someone can confirm these comments from bhphotovideo?

Did a little digging and it seems that the digital series gold mounts do in fact work with the older style chargers like this one:

http://www.antonbauer.com/en-US/Sho...old-mount-on-camera-ac-power-supply-8275-0109

I think AB only makes the iron-shaped one for the V mounts though :-(

Slight teaser is that in the next tests, Anton Bauer isn't always the leader but still holds its ground, while there are some interesting surprises. :-)

Yes, they do have a safety feature of continual self depletion that makes it drop up to 10% overnight, but I think keeping them on 24/7 is dramatizing it a bit. I just make sure I top them off right before use. It's annoying, I just tell myself that the feature is there so they don't explode when it's inconvenient.

Michael, since your in talk with Switronix, would you tell them not to feel ashamed of evaluating/providing better user experience design?

AB Cine, Sony olivine, goes finally in the right direction, but with the old 1kg/100Wh ratio. New PAG Slim and most probably those Switronix Hypercore Mark Pederson pointed at, are in the newer 500gr/100Wh ratio, but keep the old Odyssey 2001 design..

These SWIT batteries have been fantastic, small, low profile, relatively cheap and haven't had one problem yet, and they get a flogging on various shows.
The best thing about them is their size & weight, they don't rise above the EPIC top plate, or the top of my Sony F5......check them out on my Epic & F5

I really dig the small profile of the SWIT S-8082S (not rising above the Epic-D top plate), but the specs concern me.

14.4V instead of red friendly 14.8V and only max 50watt output

I'm looking around myself for BIG Heavy long lasting batts and decided to try out a newer design Dynacore high load 260Wh model.
On Paper, the volts are right, and the max watts/amps output should relate to longer life and use. (I recall Phil using Dynacore at some point).
They weigh a bit more then 3lbs - good for counter weighting (I still needed to add another 3 lbs to achieve balance).

no smart info, but a redvolt in the side handle should hopefully prevent any random shutdowns.

I'll use it as the first batt of the day to ensure full use and update on my experience w/ it.

Please let me know of alternative vmount suggestions that handle a minimum Max Output of at least 150W w/ 14.8V and more then 200Wh.

Those look awesome!

What v-mount plate are you using? It also looks low-profile.

the height is 5.87" which is the same as our other v-mount batteries, and the depth is 1.5" which is about an inch less than the Hypercore 98 and 150 batteries.

Nathan, Short answer is yes. Each color designates a different model and feature.

Green Logo is the standard V-Mount and will also work on non-Switronix chargers.

RED Logo's are also V-mount however this will be the battery you would want as it has the RED Communications protocol, so you will get your battery information on your viewfinder.

The Gold Logo's are our 3-Stud models and will also work on all current and older model AB chargers.

The HyperCore Slims are Rated at 75wh nominal but on avg cycle test we have gotten around 82-85wh @ 10amp's. Batteries are starting to Ship this month you can no place orders with Abel Cine

Do the different colors represent different capacities?

do they have trael chargers by chance? do the batteries have p-tap or usb? just curious, thanks!

Will the new anton bauer cine series fit on the new DSMC2 V-lock expander? I like the low profile -especially for our underwater housings but just in general as well.

The Cine series is about exactly the same height as the expander but I didn't know if there is something too big side to side.

Thank you for the information. Very helpful.

You mentioned the green works with 3rd party chargers. I assume that implies that the Red does not?

Also, I'm not familiar with the weapon form factors' power usage. Any ideas how long a 75wh battery would last until typical conditions? Thanks!

The the biggest difference between the Red color and Green logo is that The Red logo has RED communication protocols and the Green logo doesn't. Both batteries will work on all V-Mount chargers. For best practice and battery maintenance we recommend using Switronix chargers.

As for the power consumption of the Weapon. We still have to run some runtime test, but once we gather that info I will be sure to post of all of Battery models and how long they will power the Weapon for.

I know the profile for their new Cine battery is deeper than a HyperCore Slim, to be honest not sure how that A/B battery will fit in a underwater housing. Our HyperCores have worked great underwater, Andy Casagrande uses the HyperCore line in all of his shoots. Think of the Slim's as thick as a full deck of cards.
