  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Zeiss ZF package....Thanks RP Lens!

Hey Peter...how goes it man!

I am another happy customer of Peter's...his service is nothing short of perfection, ships in a timely matter and always communicates whats going on...this is my experience.

How is that 18mm by the way...cant decide between this or the 21.
 
Add me to the list of very satisfied RPLens customers. The lenses just arrived today and the smooth feel is very nice and Peter was great to work with. We got the 18, 28, 50, 85, 100.

I served as 1st AC on a super low budget film using the Zeiss kit from RPLens. Unfortunately we weren't shooting on RED, but an EX1 with a Letus Extreme.

The lenses themselves performed wonderfully. The only issue, as mentioned above, was the short focus throw at father distances. As far as RPLens goes, all of the lens mods were top notch.

Hi

Can anybody tell me exactly what the focus throw is on each of these lenses. Some people say short- but what does that mean- 90 degrees, 180 degrees?
 
Anybody care to comment on the amount of breathing involved with these lenses? From the look of this video (http://www.vimeo.com/1873908), the 100mm had a massive amount of movement in the front of the lens moving forward...

Which brings up another question: how do you deal with this on your mattebox? Have you installed an adjustable rear bellows that can move along with the lens? Do the rubber donuts included with the Redrock Mattebox stay in place, even with this movement?

Very pleased. I would definitely make the same purchase again. My only complaint is that the 18mm could be a little faster but it's still very nice. I added the 3rd stage to the RR matte box and don't think I could live without it now.
 
What are your feelings on focusing with these lenses?

I pawed Steve Sherrick's set from RP a few weeks ago. They were excellent. Smooth iris and focus, nice 80mm fronts. Peter knows what he's doing, for sure.

Hey Thanks Doug - and thanks for helping out some of my customers with the DX upgrade to the Nikon mount - great idea.
Someone here was asking about Zeiss ZF focus throw, here's what I measured.
ZF 18mm F3.5 - 90 degrees
ZF 25mm F2.8 - 325 degrees
ZF 28mm F2.0 - 120 degrees
ZF 35mm F2.0 - 110 degrees
ZF 50mm F1.4 - 220 degrees
ZF 85mm F1.4 - 255 degrees
ZF 100mm F2.0 - 345 degrees / Macro , also 28.5 mm barrel movement, in and out.

Peter, how has it been to focus with these lenses in real-world shooting conditions?

I actually have not used these on a real world shoot.
I love the feel of them, just the right amount of dampening in the barrel.
In the SLR line up of lenses, I think these will be preferred among focus pullers because of the amount of focus throw and build quality, more like a cine lens.

Yeah that 3.5 is kind of a killer. Any of you lens heads know why they can't make it faster?
