Just saw this over at Fred Miranda:

"[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]Carl Zeiss will reveale on Friday their new 15mm ZE/ZF lens.

They updated their blog and FB account with a description of their new 110° fov ZF/ZE lens. For memory, the old Contax 15mm f/3.5 also had a 110° fov

the information revealed so far:

- Release date: May 2012
- "a super-wide 110°, angle of view"
- an integrated lens hood
- a 95 mm filter thread
- a focusing range of 0.25mm to infinity
- 15 elements in 12 groups: Special glasses with anomalous partial dispersion, aspherical elements and floating element construction"

Looks like a cool lens. Looks like the integrated hood will be a pain in the ass for mattebox users.

My thoughts exactly ... but I have tried my Nikon 14-24 on my Vocas mattebox and was able to get it to work without vignetting by pushing out to between 16-17mm. So, who knows? Also, the new Zeiss takes a 95mm screw-on filter. Very few filters come in that size. I think B+W makes a 95mm UV. That is about it. Maybe fotodiox will come out with something like they did for the Nikon 14-24 G? Personally, I will stick with my CY Zeiss 21/2.8 and my Nikon 14-24 G.

PhotoRumors suggests the price will be $3000.

I know I shouldn't jump to conclusions, and that I tend to be hard on the ZE/ZF line, but it's gonna have to be pretty damn good to be worth $1100 more than the 14-24.

At last, i was hoping for this last few years.
Nice piece of glass for Zeiss guys. I am getting one.

After seeing the difference between Zeiss 21mm and Nikon 14-24 i expect that EX $4,600 Leica mount 15mm f2.8 lens, now with Canon mount to kick some :-/ for $3,000....now where is Zeiss 15mm f2.8 CF.2 ?

The old Zeiss 15mm goes for $2,000 to $3,000 but is not the worlds most remarkable lens in terms of aberration control. I am waiting for the updated 11-16, supposedly due later in the year...

Cant tell you how many times I've been tempted by the 15mm on evilBay...

Also new compact zooms and anamorphics are also coming from Zeiss.

So maybe Duclos can include hacksawing off the hood in their cine-mod of this lens...

From what I remember, the old Contax 15 3.5 was aso well regarded that even Leica ordered a copy. The Lieca 15 3.5, if I'm not mistaken, WAS the Contax 15 3.5 except with Leica's coating on it. So...this new 15 is probably pretty good. Just sayin'.

Interesting. Doesn't look like a still lens. More like a cine lens. And, I'm not sure about the mount. Doesn't look like either a Canon or Nikon. Maybe a PL? I will have to keep an eye out for it at NAB.
