  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Zeiss Compact Primes Revised

Where will I be able to order these from NY withOUT paying sales tax? Sales tax on such products really adds up........

Why don't you get a Tax ID certificate from NY State? The process is quite easy and I assume you'd wish to use the gear for business not just home movies, so your submission would be legitimate. Then you can order the lenses from Abel, give us your Tax ID# and there would be no sales tax paid.

Your accountant can tell you more, but you might want to wait until after the 15th as most of them are pretty busy right now.

I live in Europe, I just visit in the US sometimes and plan to buy these... how would I get the tax back?

Why not buy them from us and have us ship them directly to Europe? Has to be cheaper to ship than to pay local Sales tax.

why don't you just ship them to NJ?

Mike, I'm sure we can assist you with your purchase. Perhaps we should take this off the forum. Feel free to email or call me.

probably most of you got this info from Zeiss already, but for those who didn't.
Looks like compact2 will have two different sets.
One "standard" is based on aperture of T2.1 :)

this sound like a come back of standard and superspeeds, this time in full frame flavour.

Very interesting. Thanks Albert. These are looking better and better. Can you post a link with more info?

Mitch, can we expect a press release or NAB announcement?

"The Compact Prime CP.2 lenses cover a full-frame 24 x 36 image format without vignetting. They will be based around a common aperture of T2.1 for the standard set, which is an improvement over the first generation of lenses. "

Thanks Albert. Was that quote from a website or brochure or...?

"based around a common aperture of 2.1"... hmmm, sounds like there's some wriggle room there. 2.1 for the whole set? i can only hope.

yap that based around sounds suspicious:)

This was send to me as a newsletter from Zeiss.
All the details will show on their site in 3 days (12 April)

Here is the full massage:
Dear Mr. Rudnicki,

The trend of filming in high definition using a digital SLR camera is unstoppable. Moviemaking today is unthinkable without this technique, whether for independent filmmakers, television producers or professional still photographers who wish to expand their services.

This is why optics specialist Carl Zeiss now introduces the world's first set of cine lenses designed especially for HDSLR cameras: the Compact Prime CP.2 lenses.

Why change the mount on the camera when you can change it on the lens? The Compact Prime CP.2 lenses deliver great flexibility by introducing interchangeable mounts that allow the lenses to be used with a wide range of cameras, from traditional cine to HDSLR systems. Available with three different mounts – PL, EF and F – this new family of ZEISS lenses enables cinematographers to be completely free in their choice of camera systems while ensuring a high consistency of images.

The Compact Prime CP.2 lenses cover a full-frame 24 x 36 image format without vignetting. They will be based around a common aperture of T2.1 for the standard set, which is an improvement over the first generation of lenses.

Get your hands on the new Carl Zeiss Compact Prime CP.2 lenses at NAB in Las Vegas.

More info on Monday. They will be in the Abel booth.

Thanks Albert and Mitch.

I think Able will do well this NAB. I'm about to take the OConnor CFF-1 plunge and these primes are looking better and better. :)

I think Mitch will have the most info, hopefully with lenses to go along at the trade show.
Check Zeiss web site thought, as Abel is not the only reseller in North America.

I am really interested in this set.
Hoped for the leica, but will not be able to afford it.
I am also shooting a lot with DSLRs, and Zeiss making it universal, makes it the most desirable set on my list.
Smart move Zeiss.

Come see them at our booth! Lots of other great stuff to see.

Albert, (teasingly from the other Zeiss Compact 50 or 85 Prime thread), if you had to pick 1 single Leica prime, which would it be?

Agreed - looking forward to the announcement for Compact Primes.
