  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Viewfactor Impero Micro Wired Digital Follow Focus.

Sorry Curt for asking irrelevant info to this post. I saw you logged in. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeese give us any arbitrary date on Matte Box. I want to wait for Viewfactor Matte Box if it is coming in reasonable time.

BTW. Curt regarding auto calibration, if it works like most other units, please make the max cal speed adjustable. Especially in cold weather, a quick direction change from the first endpoint and back can easily twist most rods.
Not that I think you aren't on top of this already :-)

Joon, no news on the matte box yet other than what Jim posted. I understand your dilemma but I can't really say anything at the moment.

Anders, The auto calibration on the motors works like this... the motor is placed against the gear on the lens, you press the CAL button and the motor will slowly jog in one direction until it hits the end stop for the lens. It then rapids back to the start point and slowly jogs in the other direction until it hits the second end stop and then rapids back to a position halfway between the two limits. The speed is adjustable in software but I don't currently have an elegant way of changing it onboard the motor. I could probably put a single turn pot on the motor so you can adjust the motor speed on the fly.

Actually maybe just keep pressing the CAL button could enable "Gentle" mode or something? Really there is no need for a variable speed setting, just a slow mode for those occations.

Ok, I'll put in a switch so you can use slow or fast calibration. Easy enough.

Anders

When you say twist the rods, are you saying that the motor torque is strong enough that lens ring friction in cold weather actually bends the mounting rods!?

Eric

Having used a Preston for over 10 years, I can't see why you'd want a fast calibration mode if there is a risk of binding or having the motor pop off the lens at the endpoint. At worst you risk damaging the lens. Yes, it can take 10 seconds or more to calibrate this way but you don't have to worry about damage--a worthwhile tradeoff.

Charles, I agree. It's was just badly worded on my part.

Bottom line was: make the cal travel as slow as the Preston.
Some other units, which I wont name, have a habit of seeking the end slowly, and then make a very fast return to the center. This is of cause just bad design. And I believe Curt isn't doing any bad designs :-) so my original post was a mood point really...

I'm in... Curt, when?

E. :-)

EDIT -- OK, Curt... I've already checked:

"We will shipping at the end of April but it is going to depend solely on demand. If we receive a minimum of 500 orders then we can guarantee delivery by the end of April.... if we do not receive enough pre-orders then it will take more time."

So... what for are you guys waiting? We need 500 orders!
