DF,

No confirmed dates on the Focus Hook adapter yet - I don't want to disappoint because these little things always take longer than expected. The Quick Keys were the hardest thing we've tackled to date. Punching a square hole in a round peg...!

Black Box looks like a great solution, any idea of price yet?

MONSTERCINE Black Box

Black Box looks like a great solution, any idea of price yet?

Black Box has been a tough one to design and build, and we'll have the prototype dialed soon so we'll know more about price then. Sorry for the shrug.

We're also working on a secret project "Match Box". Visualize 32gb of solid state storage for about $500...

I like the sounds of that........I suppose you don't have a tentative release date yet? :)

Questions about the "Black Box"...
Will it require a laptop?
Is it firewire 800?
Will it provide Bus Power?
Is it battery powered it's self?
Thanks.

Evin,

- The Black box is a stand-alone unit and does not require a laptop to operate.
- The system works with up to three fw800 drives at once - any brand provided by the user. We will have recommends though.
- The system should be able power to the drives via fw cable, where applicable.
- No plans for battery now. It's on the short list of broad features.

We'll post images and specs as soon as the prototype is fully functional.

The Black Box sounds like the perfect thing for small crews on the run, read: documentary.

Great news.

Are you showing one at IBC?

Unfortunately we're not going to be ready for IBC and we're in pro-pro for our first feature so it's going to be a busy month. Our engineers are working hard on the software and we're in the process of defining our form factor from the boards to make it extremely strong and light, and of course, cool as hell looking...

Please drop me an email at jim at hive-fx dot com and I'll add you to our private email list for updates.
