Straight from RED: “Be careful when using the LCD preview image; this can often be misleading under changing ambient light, or if the brightness is set too high or low for natural viewing. Leaving the LCD at its maximum brightness can often trick one intro underexposing the image, for example. Try to rely on objective tools such as the histogram goal posts and exposure false color mode.”
Hey all and thanks in advance for your input. I am brand new to Red with an Epic M Dragon 6k and am in the process of figuring it all out. You can see the above from Red that I have already read and found to be true. I come from an Fs7 where my -1ev rec709 display gives me just what I need to view in real time and perfectly exposed.
My current Red display settings (Look, Video, Video Source) are as follows:
LOG3G10
DRAGONcolor2
BT-1886 (I found that REDgamma4 showed highlights even brighter)
Graded
The issue is that I do want to look at some sort of Rec709ish image while shooting but the LCD seems to be showing a much more blown out image than what is being recorded. I’m using the exposure tools but of course new and getting it more and more each day. *Side note: I can’t find any pink to show up on the false color.
Problem: monitor displays as if things are blown waay out when the tools are showing different. I do want to view a Rec709 image and not the Raw or RedLogFilm.
What are your optimal display settings that show something relatively accurate to what you’re recording?
Thank you!
