My followup to "Learning to Fly" won't be done until next summer at least - (Jim, I need my 120fps!)

Meantime, here are a few shots from my trip to the White Mountains and Yosemite in August. A lot of details and behind-the-scenes vids are on the Vimeo page, along with a 1080p direct DL from Vimeo if you are logged in. Hope you will enjoy it.

Beautiful as always Tom. Really love the camera movement.

Did you create your own motion devices or did you purchase them as is. i have a friend who is knowledgeable with step motors. Thinking about creating something or at least trying.

Stunning work Tom. Honestly, it was beautiful. =]

I feel like I have a spiritual experience every time I watch one of your timescape video's Tom. Thanks for the work that you do. Very inspiring.

This is about the nicest thing anyone could possibly say to me. Thank you.

Love it. Cant wait you receive the Epic.
Whats the iso you choose. Is it always the same or you change it for different shots?

Awesome work Tom, enjoyed the behind the scenes stuff especially.

These shots are way up there. Tom you need to travel overseas. I would love to see the world through your eyes. (Damn that sounds like a pickup line..)

Absolutely stunning Tom.

Out of interest, do you have a standard ratio between shot interval and exposure time?

e.g. is your exposure usually half the interval time?

No, I usually just try to keep the interval between 1 - 5 seconds. One second for very fast clouds, four or five max for long-exposure night stuff.

Lol Ace you're making me blush...hehe. :blush5:

Wow, these are truly amazing! You have mastered the technique and achieved that awe effect. While watching these videos I couldn't stop comparing it to Baraka because of the soundtrack, and prevented me from enjoying it with fresh ears. Perhaps you could find another soundtrack similar to this? Look into ambient music, there is lots of great stuff out there. For example Aes Dana from Canada makes amazing ambient music. Do you know where you could improve? Composition. Looking forward seeing your stuff in Imax one day. Great work! ...ps, do you have it available in 1080p somewhere? I would love to see that.

Radim, there is a 1080p download link at Vimeo, but I think Vimeo only allows 200 downloads a day or so. I will try to upload a 1080p copy to my timescapes server when I get back in a couple of days. Last time, with "Learning to Fly," my server got raped for like 200 terabytes of downloads... Hahaha.

So you think my compositions need some work? I generally just go with what feels right, like I do with stills, except of course I have to anticipate motion with these timelapse shots as well.

Tom, thanks. I will try downloading it. Also thanks for posting the behind scenes videos, that gives me greater appreciation for your work. I admire your knowledge of night sky light situations.

Composition is something that we all learn all the time and more you do it the better it gets and nobody is perfect at it. It is hard to practice with time-lapses because you have long setup and wait time, and in your case it even changes during the scene. So setup is even more important.
From watching your scenes videos I would especially avoid single object in a dead center, for example that tall bristlecone pine around 0:33 and 2:10. 1:04 is centered as well and opening scene has little bit centered feel as well.

Again, your stuff is amazing, keep it up and keep making it always better. Thanks for sharing.
