  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Timelapse...

You should add a story to it.. add narration.. maybe its the voice of nature speaking to the world.. "I am earth" .. something. The images you produce are too powerful to not have a profound message and meaning attached to them, weather passive or not.

If I may Nature did speak if that is the thoughts that came to mind when viewing the piece...to some degree and at some level, that is what all of us may have heard. That is the power of the craft, and the art of this profession.

OK, thats enough. Someone has to describe whats going on with this piece. I can't watch it as I have a crappy cell phone modem here in South Africa. Jeez I swear when viewing sites with Avatars I get bogged down just by them alone!!

Anyone?

Cheers,
Mark.

Yes, excellent as usual!

So... I have to ask, though, (in the pure interest of seeing you push things to the limit) - when are you going to move the camera? I know - it's not the easiest thing to do - I've been looking into it for a while myself and found that doing interesting moves without wobble on the cheap does seem to involve a certain amount of engineering ;)

Oh and one more question - do you just leave the camera out there taking photos for the night and hope it's still there the next morning, or do you set a bunch of cameras to go, and camp out there? I guess it depends on how remote the location is... also, if a gang of people decide to steal your cameras, do you really want to risk getting in their way?

Anyway, if you're shooting some late night stuff and ever need someone to stop by and guard your rig while you find a bathroom or something, you should let the Redusers in your area know... we can drop by and have a good chat with you about film projects etc while your camera is hard at work.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the your next footage post. If I get anything interesting going (I'm going the consumer cam route as usual though with a CHDK script), I'll have to join your Timescapes forum and post... but until then, keep us inspired, please!

Bruce, yeah, I just recently got my moco panning head last week, so my next shooting trips will be all motion shots. :) I've been testing the whole setup for the last few days. It's amazing technology.

As far as guarding the rig, I usually camp right next to it. Sometimes I will even sleep on a pad with my sleep bag near the camera. Typically I am in spots so remote that I don't have to worry about it. The only problem I've ever had was when a black bear was stalking me at Glacier Point in Yosemite at 3AM..... :) One minute I'm listening to my iPod, the next I am looking at a bear less than ten feet away from me, strolling right toward me in my camping chair.

Yes, I'd love to get together with some people this summer for some shooting. I think we'll have RED #400 up in Yosemite in late July if all goes well.

Time-lapse trip

Time-lapse trip

Hey Tom,

Am just at the end of a month trip shooting both red and canon.
London-Paris-Switzerland-Venice.
Have got some amaaaaaaaazing stuff. (1TB)
Gagging for build 16 tho. The limitations of shutter speed and noise still make the slr better for timelapse. Have also got some cool 100fps stuff while out and about.
Will take a while to recuperate from lugging this gear around.....

steve

Steve, can you give us a glimpse of your new stuff once you've got it all processed and everything? I'd love to see what you got on this trip.

I was up in the Sierras for a few days last week, but the trip was a disaster in terms of timelapse, because of the weather. :(

OK, I am now in California with a faster connection. Good stuff Tom, I knew the wait was worth it.

Good going my man,
Mark.

Mark, how long are you out here?? What city? I'm leaving for Joshua Tree in a couple hours. Half moon comes up at about midnight tonight, which should be good since that is when the air traffic usually dies down as well. I hate to spend $150 on gas just to drive out there for two nights, but what can you do? :weight_lift:

Pawel, that is absolutely gorgeous work. I need to shoot more sunset stuff!

Have you signed up at timescapes.org? You should post that in the timelapse showcase.

Thanks, Tom. Glad you like it.

You will never guess how I managed to do those two aerial sequences of sunrise above a sand cay in the middle of the ocean (Great Barrier Reef). He, he, he

You are very close. LOL But, you are right, there is no land in a radius of 100 miles and it is not shallow
