  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New timecode slate - Fuze Ti: Fuze Slate

Doesn't look like it will fund - please spread the word! Has there been a cross-post on dvxuser, cinematography, other camera forums (Canon, Sony, Arri)?

My post on DVXUser got deleted by I presume the mods:-P

One of the protos should be arriving back to me tomorrow and I'll be filming the drop test. Keep an eye out for a drop test later this week:-)

Yeah ... $120K was too high. Much better strategy is to use Kickstarter to get you to an initial milestone. Baby steps. Smaller run, less profit, seed the market. Get some legs - generate interest and make people aware the product is great. Get some units out into the field. Then, maybe you attract a partner or investor and make a bigger run based on more interest than you can build on Reduser. You need somebody like Gotham Sound pimping this - https://www.gothamsound.com/

No doubt that it is a high and ambitious goal:-) Part of reducing cost was producing in volume and purchasing components in bulk. Tooling is quite expensive which is where most of the kickstarter funds will go. This will lay a good foundation for continued support and production long after the Kickstarter campaign is done. Can't compete with Denecke and Ambient without plans to support owners for many years down the road:-) Just meeting the goal I'll still have to pay some out of pocket money, mostly in taxes (on a side note I'm pulling my hair out right now filing my taxes for 2013>.<).

Be great to find an investor, but as niche of a market as it is it's pretty difficult. I've got several projects I wish I could get investors for, but I gatta admit I'm not a very good salesman:-P Either way, no matter how the Kickstarter ends I won't be disappearing, it'll either be beginning production and make more timecode products or figure out a way to try again:-)

Best of luck! Still hoping for a last minute Kickstarter surge, but it sounds like a backup plan is a good idea at this point. If there's a way to go after smaller volume and significantly lower your start-up cost, that seems worth pursuing. It seems that the addressable market for timecode slates is not very large, based on the response so far.

120k really is way too much. Even half that would be hard. Have you reached out for coverage from NoFilmSchool and similar blogs?

Certainly have:-) didn't get a whole lot of non-automated responses tho.

The drop test is up:-)

The electronics has survived the drops on all sides from a height of 4 feet! Some of the powder coat chipped from the drop, mostly on the corners and edges onto which it was dropped. Fractures formed mostly between the printing layers, which is a known weakness in the 3D printing process. The production run injection molded enclosure does not have this weakness in it's structure, so it is unlikely it will break as easily as the prototype.

That said, there will be a few reinforcing additions to the enclosure as a result of the drop test:-)
No, I didn't shave, and yes, audio was recorded on camera. All spoken off the cuff so I apologies if I'm hard to understand in the video:-)
