  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Last night was the first night that I fired up #39 and took my first shots.

I totally relate to the quote.

Jim, it is a marvel.

It is extremely well built, a pleasure to operate, and the post-production work-flow (even at this early stage) forgiving and intuitive.

The most impressive thing about the camera? The Red team, which has been supportive and available each time I called. In my particular case, Brent has been a super solid resource and helpful beyond belief.

You get thanked a lot on this board, so now I'll add my own voice -- I love this camera and the company of committed people that it represents.

Looks like Film and it's attendant infrastructure and knowlegeable practicioners, just got shot off it's horse twenty-miles from the nearest waterin' hole. Hope the canteen outlasts that sun.

Or will just RED TWO reflect those experiences..

Its all about modularity, right ?

Yeah, but they are tough bastards! And some of em meaner than
a rattlesnake in the hot Texas desert. I would keep my ear to the ground
with one eye open all the time!
 
I know the heat issue has been dealt with but will the recessed buttons and power output placement be seen in December models? I've heard the same thing about the power on the back of the camera from people with #30. It would be great if that change was made. It's minor of course compared to all the things that went right on RED one. I have a little something like that for all film cameras as well of course. For example, the Arricam LT doesn't balance out on the shoulder with modern primes(s4's, ultra, and masters). Only smaller lighter Superspeeds. Wha?

I do wonder why they released the first cameras before this kind of feedback on the ergonomics of the hardware. This camera is so far ahead of its time. I could have waited a couple more months as those decisons are not upgradable by firmware of course.

Nothing is perfect. But we are getting close with Red and that's the best anyone will ever do. The feedback, this forum, and RED's willingness to listen is to credit for this.
 
I think this is the best quote you could get because it's not a test. This is the REAL DEAL, shoot all the charts you want. This is from someone who shot SCENES to make a MOVIE.

It does not get better.

I have no idea about the schedule, but re: power output in particular- I could imagine that requiring redesign of interior circuit boards as well as a respin of tooling if the chassis is being die-cast, which can be a pretty big deal. It may be not something you'd do for an "inconvenience" type issue.

I remember a few who ironically laugh at me when i've said that a few months ago...

I'm glad i'm not alone to appreciate that virtue of RED image.
