Toshiba to launch first 512GB Solid State Drive

http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/20081218/toshiba-launch-first-512gb-solid-state-drive-ssd.htm

....It has a maximum sequential read speed of 240MB per second and maximum sequential write speed of 200MBps....

.....Samples of the second-gen drives will be available to during the first quarter of 2009....Toshiba doesn't expect to ramp up mass production until the second quarter.

Not fast enough for REDCODE 255 though...

Hopefully RED will get their hands on some test samples.

As for the newly announced REDCODE formats, we don't exactly know what the new numbers mean. They are not relative data rates as they are now with RC28/36. And even if they do require 200~250MB/s, SSDs will get us there someday.. Perhaps these may do it, if two are used in a striped array, as the current RED Drive does with HDDs.
