Jarred, on the 32GB cards, how does that affect the Red One resolutions? Will these be qualified to shoot up to 4K 16:9 at RC36?

Thanks!

Will there be faster 128 and 256 cards soon?

On a side note. It is really cool that the limiting factor on the Epic is the media and not the camera.

You are thinking a little too Ferrari on your 512GB estimate, but pretty close on your 32GB guess :)

Please make these 32GB available ASAP - I want to order 4 of these today! =)

Any update on when the 32Gb will be available? I'm ordering first chance I can.

I'm really hoping the 32GB cards are $350
[...]pretty close on your 32GB guess :)

Hmm hopefully closer to $300 than $400. A 4-pack of 64GB cards is about $800 each. $700 for a 64GB of 32GB cards isn't much of a discount if you have to buy new cards when you upgrade to Dragon. Even $600 per 64GB is pushing my enthusiasm.

Second that question - will it be possible to use the 32GB with the RED ONE?
best wishes and kind regards,
Martin

What is the firmware requirements for using the new 32gig size ? Will I be able to use an older firmware ?
I liked the internal sync feature, it was working ok for me, now it's gone. For some things I may want to use the old firmwares on occasion.

Frame rates/compression specifics

Frame rates/compression specifics

512GB TURBO SSD - Data Rate almost double current media. Take advantage of Epic's higher Frame rates at a lower compression. Priced to match. A lot of Epic user's dream..

32GB Lower Cost SSD - Data Rate almost half current media. Matched to Scarlet's top speed. Priced to match. A lot of Scarlet user's dream..

Awesome! Jarred, what frame rates and compression are we looking at on Epic when using the 512??

32GB?

I don't think I fully understand why there'd be a 32, wouldn't it only record roughly 15 minutes? What's the benefit of this? Other than it probably being half the price of the 64?

Curran (as well as a couple of others) already noted the use as an emergency firmware SSD.

This need was the subject of extended threads on REDUser as well as individual discussions with Bomb Squad reps and RED product development personnel.
RED was and is listening - more importantly, they think it through - if it makes sense, they respond with something we can use.

There are other uses for this product.
For example, once "still mode" or "time lapse mode" are enabled - makes a lot of sense to have these cards.
Dedicating a card for storing essential files downstream - remember, neither the Scarlet or EPIC have SD card slots - who knows what RED has under development...
Someone else mentioned quick reference / startup files for the DIT on location - great idea.

All I can say is a very big "THANK YOU" to all involved with either promoting the idea and developing the product.

Edit: And about the 512's: +++++ Yeah Baby- those will rock!

Enough people longed for a cheaper card. For one a lot of Scarlet Users and then a lot of people who want a small, cheap card as a firmware carry-on ;) Also for stills this might be worthwhile.

Also, as these are slower than the standard black SSDs, the 32GB will surely come in cheaper per gigabyte. Think about a $300 price point or similar. Jarred already mentioned $350 is close.
I don't expect them to be half the price of a 64GB. That really wouldn't make too much sense, especially not if they are slower!

when are they releasing pricing for these bad boys?

no answer to that as of now. there's a couple of estimates in the thread or in the "Questions" thread. Don't remember. Zap through it with the "RED TEAM" button.

half the size and half the data rate of a 64GB... wouldn't that sum up to a quarter of the price ? hehehe!

It will definitely be interesting what the 32s can pull of on an EPIC. So if you buy these, you know what they will produce if you rent or step up sometime in the future.
