This is not the same thing as announced at NAB. Two different product lines. This is more consumer level and will probably hit the street first.

I am rather intrigued by the new camera.

It could be a good sign.

I think the message of RED and the wide adoption of the Canon DSLRs are hitting home with the industry.

It certainly looks like it will lack a lot of the things professional users need- but if Sony follows form there will be a professional version, with better i/o options and such.

Its almost certain that we are looking at a AVCHD camera, at relatively low bitrates.

All that said, because its intended for video, it may prove to be a step forward from the current crop of DSLRs.

Regardless of the veracity of all my conjecture... its exciting times.

Much as I hate to big up the opposition,
Hey David, I'm a Cinematographer ... I love cameras and the technology ... I don't consider anyone who makes cameras, "the opposition". We're all just trying to make beautiful pictures, aren't we. Anyone in the film industry is a brother ... N'est-ce pas? I love my RED ONE, but I can still look ... can't I?

I think these are good steps in the right direction. Having interchangeable lenses in the prosumer video market is starting to be the new "thing." (not that we haven't always wanted it)

But why the hell are they making the camera 720p??? I guess they need to work up to 1080p for the next new model :frown2:
