Just got an email announcing this years SHOT ON RED FESTIVAL. Would like to suggest that this years entries be allowed to submit using .RED codec via ODEMAX.

Would be cool, but there's one problem -- we don't really know anything in regard to where ODEMAX is at in its dev cycle. Seems like it could be close, but who knows. The most recent information I was able to glean was on their Facebook page.

True dat about ODEMAX... an unknown quantity. But at least the .RED codec is slowly being released into the wild with the RRPlayer. I recently entered a (spur-of-the-moment, poorly done) short in the Marfa Film Festival. I didn't make the cut to have the short exhibited which was no real surprise after learning they were getting submissions from all over the world. But I did want to get the content seen so I took the $40 plunge to enter.

And when the RRPlayer started shipping, I assumed it was going out to everyone instead of a few testers. Knowing that I (presumably) was one of the early buyers, I assumed I would get the Player in time to encode my short in a sped up form that would slow down for the important parts and reduce the whole thing from some 15 minutes down to about 5 or less. Then I planned to take my Player, some battery power sources (in case I couldn't run power from a nearby AC outlet) and a 48" TV that should just fit in the back of my crossover SUV for viewing out the back. (I even considered buying one of the Seiku 4k TVs but decided against it since 1. it wouldn't fit in my SUV and 2. I didn't have my RRPlayer in hand)

My plan was to set up in front of the Paisano Hotel early morning so any content seekers could get the gist of the story in a brief encounter with the back of my SUV, tailgate lifted, and hopefully generate some interest in acquiring the story. Don't know if I would have been run out of town for "unauthorized showing of Festival Related Content" but I thought at the time it might be worth a try... especially since, to my knowledge, they don't even have a lawman in the town... probably since they only have one flashing red traffic light. '-)

Still, if someone from the Festival had objected I would have felt obligated to comply and then would have been out a long round trip to the edge of nowhere (I think La Jitas is the middle of nowhere.) In the end I scrapped the idea of going through with my plan by using a laptop to feed the TV with common ol' 1080p DVD.

I have pride and do not even want to show poorly acted, shot and finished content on mere 1080p DVD.
