So I recieved an email today from Sergey. He is offering Lomo anamorphs as well as a focus ring with markings in feet. He included pix. Not surprisingly, a new seller registered two days ago on Ebay: cinestyle-ru The seller lists a NY location and has the identical focus ring (same pic in Ebay Item # 261121019811 as in my email) . Looks like he is trying to rebrand himself and start up again. Email text below. I just want people to be informed.

I am dealing with Sergey with zero of problem for years. As many others here and outside of here. Just to keep you informed ;-) As well, to those who have PMed or emailed me on the subject matter wondering about. Sergey is legit and he is simply the best supplier of russian glass you can find.

Michael, I think you should give it a rest. Some have had bad experiences with Sergey, some have not (I have had no problems with him). Some have had problems with Sony, some have not (I have had problems with Sony). Sergey exists out in the far-away universe called buying-lenses-from-Russia. its not the same as buying lenses in Kansas or LA. If you don't like doing business with him, don't, but I think you should let the subject die a natural death.

I'm not saying anything about Sergey one way or the other. I am just bringing information to the forum. I bristle when someone suggests that its better to be in the dark than to have knowledge; when Reduser members are better off not knowing than knowing.

Moreover, the seller ID on Ebay says the location is NY. So if that is the case, it is exactly like buying from LA or Kansas. If these really do ship from NY, then either Sergey has relocated to the States or is using a proxy. Either way, that lenses do not have to go through Customs is significant both in terms of shipping time and potential duty liability. Alternatively, if Sergey is in the US, there may be some Reduser members who would want to seek redress in a US Court. So, overall, I think this is very relevant.

Rob,

We appreciate Michael's information. The more data points one has, the better informed a decision someone can make. This forum is about sharing among the community. Likewise, we value Emanuel's experience with this individual...As a result, we can make our own decisions about whether or not Russian glass is an option for future lens purchases.

Russian glass is still one of the best options for cine lens. The prices are unbiddable. However the prices rise and seem that there is harder and harder to buy good quality lens in the market now. Especially i can find none fast lomo or ekran now. I have deal with Sergey once or twice before. Luckily i can safely receive my lens after almost a month. My concern and the fact is i can hardly find a "reliable" partner out there that can help to convert oct19 to PL when i need to. Can anyone suggest for such a reliable technician in the States?

Hey Micheal, could you PM me Sergey's email address? I can't seem to find it and I can't contact him through here. Thanks.

Cheers,

Nick

Dima can get it done. I ordered 5 PL mount LOMOs from him this year. He used to be here. ds225[at]rambler.ru

Jack, I take your point and its not a bad one at all. Thanks. It is the tone of self-righteous in Michael’s post that put me off. And the actual nastiness in Brian’s. Give it a rest.

Buying lenses from the old Soviet Union is a chancy adventure and you can be burned. But you can also get good lenses from decent people. It is simply a different business culture with a very different history. You shouldn’t buy stacking dolls from Russia without recognizing the hazards, let alone lenses. But that doesn’t mean everybody you deal with is going to be a crook and if they are slow to respond or go off the radars for awhile, they my have legitimate reasons. After all, I was one of the people screwed by the famous monitor scam run on this forum by an American. You pay your money, you take your chances. That’s life. Information is good and helpful. Nastiness, not so much.

people who consistently seek to commit fraud are bad man, regardless of nationality... this isn't anything to do with region. more so the concept of theft that upsets me...and i was just kidding about a bounty...the police should just take care of it, but it couldn't hurt to try to aid their efforts in bringing criminals to justice...

ps if anything i appreciate people who give heads up when they see sketchy stuff like multiple sellers using the same pictures...

BEWARE!!!! Sergey took my money and still has NOT sent me my lens!! THAT WAS 4 MONTHS AGO!!!!
