  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New round of changes...

If it keeps the competition guessing, I have no problem with there being a certain point in the development cycle of Red products where you stop publicly posting updates. I hope you continue being as open in the very early stages though, it's a lot of fun!

However compared to (for example) soulless corporate machine Canon, doing things like releasing an XH A1s which is basically a small handful of bug fixes to the XH A1 and charging a $1000 price bump for it, you'd pretty much have to personally insult my momma to not be my favorite camera company.

1. No negative price/performance changes.

Uh oh, that's sounds to me like "prices are going up, but performance is going up too."

If so...

Better is always - well - better, however I hope you'll keep (or add) a product at the bottom end, around the current price point of the 2/3" Scarlet. That's all I can (barely) afford and I don't need it to be any better.

Also, I'm sure if you had the answer to this question you would have volunteered it already, but I'm gonna be a jerk and ask anyway :

Since you're going to stop "leaking" information, when can we expect the official announcements? The day they're ready to ship? A few weeks in advance to get pre-orders started?

Just curious, I'm not trying to rush you. Release it when YOU think it's ready, man, I trust you.

hmmm I dont know, maybe he meant it, as in increase of price would, be a negative change, but thats just more guessing. All i know is i just wish I could be at vagas for the party. :(

I think Jim meant that as "no negative price or performance changes", not "no negative price to performance ratio".

We have just made a number of final changes to our program. It has become clear that our competition is finally paying attention to what we are doing so this time we will NOT announce what the changes are.

If our competition is shooting at us, they will be shooting at where we were and not where we are going to be.

Jim

Even if the competition was revising itself to rival us (I mean, Red), how could they possibly do a 180 with their products and prices to compete with Red? There would have to be a dramatic difference that they probably couldn't afford to do. Imagine an F-23 for $15,000....

I understand the precautions, though. I just don't see how they can catch up at this point without making a dent in what they've already established.

Here's a Romeo and Julieta on me, Jim :sifone:

Eddie

Irony does not equal coincidence.

It must be fun to watch the "Big Guns" try to take shots at you, and you guys are already on the next big hill 10 miles away and you guys watch their missiles hit where you were "2 Generations" ago.

Can't wait to hold my Scarlet and watch what the others bring out. :)

Canon, Nikon or maybe even JVC could do it. Sony and Panasonic have bigger professional infrastructures to worry about, though there are rumors from Panasonic. I think Sony will just continue making killer ENG cameras - a lucrative market they currently do very well in.

I always thought Nikon should have been the company to take on RED but it appears Canon might be the one. With a few tweaks of the 5D II they'd be very dangerous. It's just a matter of time before they do 24p and figure out the CMOS skewing.

Just kick their fricken ass Jim!!! With your awesome camera making skills and team leadership!!. WHHHaaaaPOOOOW!!!!

Just make sure someones updating the rest of us during the event.

Even if it's just a DRUNKEN NAB PARTY forum thread with tidbits of information.

Just email me when its ready

Just email me when its ready

Information sharing is a fine line as the input of the community has been such a terrific synergy the last couple of years. OTOH it hardly makes sense to give the copycats a head start. Considering the break in at HQ, and the blight of industrial espionage by people lacking creativity, I applaud the Madman and the RedTeam for not going much more paranoid long ago.

If I have the cash I will buy whatever camera you make next, even if I have no specifics on it until 5 minutes before the purchase. Am I an idiot? Matter of opinion - no fair asking my wife :head_explode:

If the RedOne is not enough evidence of what RED can do then you deserve to go to the back of the line.

I will say the following:

1. No negative price/performance changes.
2. Only positive feature and system changes.
3. No additional slip to the target schedule.

Just know that every time we change something, it gets better.

Jim :attention9ha:

So its Super Duper Better?!

1. No negative price/performance changes.

English is not my first language, but:

If price/performance ratio value goes up - a positive change - we have a higher price for same or lower performance.

If price/performance ratio value goes down - negative change - we have a lower price for increased performance.

As consumer, guess what I would be happy to get!

I am sure RED will bring at NAB something that will raise the bar and some eyebrows too.

:head_explode:

If price/performance ratio value goes down - negative change - we have a lower price for increased performance.

Dude, higher price for same or lower performance is BAD.

And lower price for increased performance is GOOD.

You just got mixed up... LOL

So has Jim changed his mind about telling everyone at NAB the changes?

If so when would it be safe to announce the changes?

Regards
Jono
