Hi Fella,

I am DIT down here in Auckland New Zealand, our workflow down here is largely governed by budgetary constraints - IE I am frequently Operating Q take setting up monitors doing the data offload and transcoding simultaneously (yep - QC and visual inspection of every clip is simply not possible - but had no problems so far). Anyhow. My clients generally supply 3 x Esata hard drives that I make my back up copies/offloads to from the orginial media files. I use the lacie thunderbolt to Esata adapter to get pretty decent offload speeds - I have been thinking of buying a Pegasus raid to make a back up copy (which I would hold until the post is finished in TVCs) - Investigating the options here I have come across this new product that offers a basic dual dock and thunderbolt capability. This appeals to me as most post houses now have a FW800 Toaster that bare drives can be docked into - And it saves the client the cost of buying enclosures that end up sitting on a shelf somewhere unused for all eternity....

here it is:

Anyone used this yet? Is it reliable and mount easily? Once the drives are inserted are they fairly secure?

Any input or Ideas apprecieted! thanks

Yeah I was looking at the Seagate range before I stumbled onto the RocketStor - OWC is doing an USB3 version (which is a good sign for the reliablity of the brand overall). It seems to me Kwan that as an owner/operator you are primarily offloading for yourself? Or are you getting your clients to buy a 4tb seagate enclosure that use offload to using your thunderbolt-esata dock?

I still trying to find out wether or not the Rocketstor can be configured to Dual Back up raid? So you can make two simultaneous copies to two drives (which would be supplied by the client). Most post houses here are still running Mac Pro Machines - so post could then mount the drive internatlly in the Mac Pro or read it using a FW800 docking station. The second copy is just stored away as back up...I am trying to avoid needing multiple Seagate external enclosures - to me this seems a little pointless, Particularly if post can't use either USB3 or Thunderbolt...I am not sure that post will pick up on the new MacPro when it comes out as lack of PCIE slots seems incredibly limiting.

I have the USB 3 version and it works great but I find it very finicky when putting a drive in. They like to wobble back and forth and can disconnect themselves fairly easy. If you were in a studio on a fixed desk i'd say go for it but if you use it in the field i'd go a different route.

With MBP (r) added Just two seagate backup Plus (New version, 7200 rpm) via Seagate thunderbolt adopter (Stripped) and I get this.
