  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new REDCINE-X feedback

Repeatable: If I put clips into a bin, quit REDCINE-X, eject the CF card the clips are on, then restart REDCINE-X, the clips in the bin show up with Xs (as expected), but if the CF card is remounted, those binned clips can't be viewed even in the browser (other, unbinned clips on the CF card can be).

Fix: Quit & restart REDCINE-X.

Happened once: I ran REDCINE-X, exported some clips, etc. At some point (I think while switching between REDCINE-X and FCP) the Viewer window went white. I quit REDCINE-X, pulled the CF card, tried to restart REDCINE-X. Got one bounce in the dock, then nothing; console messages said:

Thanks Adam. I think we've already fixed the second one for the next release if it's the same as what we saw.

We'll retry to recreate the first one. It could have to do with how the card gets remounted in osx.

Still my biggest problem is that RED assumes that I want to color correct all my footgae before I cut it. Once they start to embrace a workflow that allows me to color correct only the shots that I have used in a sequence, then I will embrace it. Until then, my usual fcp to clipfinder to color workflow.

Just to be aware, we've noticed that the resultant quicktimes we are exporting in 258 (2k 25fps Prorez 444) are all showing timecodes at least 10 seconds earlier than they should be. This is on two different machines, different rockets. We went back to 256 and they were fine again.

Can you send us details and an example clip?

Please email redcinex@red.com

Does REDCNE-X Windows support the Tangent WAVE panel?
What has to be done?

When I cue up multiple clips in a bin for rendering, after a while the renders are black, though audio is correctly included. If I restart RedCine-X 258, I can render correctly again as long as I batch them out bit by bit.

I've seen the black frame issue pop up now and again, but not recently.

Anyone else having this issue?

I've figured my timecode problem. We edit up clips in the timeline to eliminate processing time on parts we don't need. We then export using "Timeline selected" to get individual clips with the correct metadata but only the parts we need.

What seems to be happening is that in 258 although the exported clip starts at the edit in point, the resultant quicktime is given the actual unedited start time of the R3D.

So if you are exporting an entire clip or from a bin you should be OK. It is only if you are subbing down your clips first and exporting from the timeline.

Would it be possible to add something like a small Clear In/Out button somewhere on the Player window?

I know it's been mentioned before, but not sure what the opinion was on the use of the mouse scrollwheel on the image settings pane. Before Build 221 it was possible to make micro-adjustments to image paramaters using the scroll-wheel on the mouse. But since the incorporation of the Image, Look, and Curves Settings into a complete panel by itself, the scroll-wheel micro-adjustments are difficult because the scroll-wheel now scrolls the entire panel if too many of the dividers in the panel are open. It still works if you only open up some of the dividers in the panel, but very often you want a lot of them open at the same time. Is there any way around this in the present build?

Is this induced with a third party tool?

I haven't tested this build, but can I assume that Red is aware that this is a bug?

Anyone found this effects clipfinder xml rendering via Redline?

browser not displaying R3D's

browser not displaying R3D's

Just moved to the current beta versions, and updated Rocket Drivers and bios as well.

In build 258 (also in build 256) the browser will drill down to the clip level folder but doesn't display any clips.

If I use the open folder menu option things function per design andt he clip is subsequently displayed in the bin.

Anybody else seeing this?

Cheers,

Steve

Just been using the updated versions (256 & 258) on set.

I have to say it would be really great & much more intuitive if the viewer showed (or had an option to show) the full clip length in it's scrubber bar with markers on it for in and out points like FCP and other edit programs do. This has been mentioned before and I second it as a request.

Also whilst the UI went through a significant improvement a while back it would be nice to see it scale down to smaller screens better. I just can't get it to work efficiently on my 15" MBP. (Yeah I know I should get a 17")

Icons, borders and so on are all just a bit too chunky, I'm sure it could fit a lot better if they could be scaled down automatically on smaller displays.

Would also be nice if when selecting attach audio it came up with a file browser window that remembered where you last loaded audio from. It's pain enough to have to manually select the matching audio clips when auto match isn't successful without adding the pain of having to browse to your audio folders again & again each time.

Also it would be great if it provided some feedback on the auto match process. As is you currently have no idea if it was sucessfull until you open the clips and play them back, and even then you have no way of telling which audio clip has been attached to the clip you are playing other than by listening to the slate.

Would be nice to see this info in the viewer, possibly even the bin in some form - next to or below clip name perhaps - audio file name - with scene and take no from BWF metadata.

Can we please add an ability to delete R3D files to Red Cine X?

If you are worried that people might accidentally delete clips, then make some kind of redundant system asking, "Do you REALLY want to enable delete R3d files?" "Really?"

:)

Whilst on the subject of metadata it would also be great to have a metadata panel which is updated with info from the selected clip or a even a clip that is hovered over similar to the one in Adobe Lightroom. Also with editable fields for Scene, Slate, Take etc. These could become searchable/ orderable fields in the list view of browser and bins.

If this was done with some forward thinking and hooks for scripting it might be able to work together with things like script, camera, audio & continuity notes created on ipads etc. on set and add them to clip metadata - but this is a thing for the future.

That delete thing might also be handy Tom. ;-)
