  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new RED Pro Program...

I believe we all like to run our camera cables to the back of the cam and right now the first thing that comes after the connections are the RED recording media. This (the cards etc) are something we'd likely to change very often and it's not clever to have the cables so close to this.

You're forgetting one important thing. Modularity. I'm pretty sure that if you wanted to place the "recording media module" in the chain before the "audio module" that you could.

Someone at Red, is this correct?

A brain is a brain. All the brain does is be a brainiac...It can't see without glass, hear without an I/O module (exc. fixed lens), taste without...well its not on the list of modules but its probably been thrown around a few times, smell - only if the fan stops working!

Yes. It has been stated that B4 mount will be available. I doubt they will be cheap - not as cheap as the C-Mount anyway.

If you haven't already go over to ScarletUser and have a look at a years worth of information, heated debates, anticipation and drama...

Hey Tim, thanks for answering!
Yes, I've seen that B4 mount will be available, but how will lences made for 3 ccd kameras work on a scarlet? I am thinking of putting a canon 40x HD lense on a scarlet and can not find any info about how that will work. I guess I need to run over to the scarlet forum :)

And my question about audio comes down to if it will be possible to run audio without the I/O module, for instance through the handgrip or somewhere else... to go ultralight (and I am not thinking of the fixed lens option).
Of course I am as excited about the cameras and the possibilities as everyone else...

i guess modules positions can be swapped so that the I/O module goes in the back, attached to redmote?

Absolutely, it's just that I have a feeling that the design is that the I/O module contains the media recording as well?

B4 mount will have to have an optical prism like 3-chip cameras to correct chroma focus to match the standard. Should work just fine.

A Few Remarks

A Few Remarks

The camera is really beginning to shape up; The hand grip; The viewfinder; The shoulder plate; The 128 GB media; A I don’t know what else, but it’s really shaping up. CONGRATULATIONS! That’s only after two renders! So, God only know what else is down the line!

In reference to the 30mm x 15mm Mysterium-x sensor size, I hope there is a resolution in the works. To quote; “IN A MYSTICAL WAY, THE SENSOR WILL COVER THE FULL IMAGE CIRCLE OF YOUR LENS... :-)” JIM. That is still to be announced, and if the past is any indication, in due time it will be resolved, as will it be with the wide angle lens. We just have to wait, after all it only the beginning of March, so we have quite a bit of time to go before the end of the year, which is when I realistically expect the Epic Mysterium-x to become available. Meanwhile we’ll continuum to get the News as-it-happens two generations behind. After all; it’s Show Business!

It’s only been two years since the beginning, so you have grown exponentially! Again congratulations!

I believe it has been confirmed before that the scarlet has a lemo connection as does the R1. You can power the lens via an adapter; so zoom etc.

In this thread the guy actually made a cable to use all the operations.

Looks great to me, be good to see how the the modules connect to each other... i.e can we change them on the fly - or config night before the shoot... plug in play vs screw/key

A hint/estimate of the module cost would be great, just so we know what to save for.... etc.

keep playing - looks great :)

I like the look of that handgrip on there. Does that mean the brain includes a rosette? That would be fantastic, I only have one request: Make it an Arri-compatible rosette so that everything we already have will fit nicely on there.

Tim

The Mac Daddy render is looking really good! I like the use of rosettes.

Have to agree with weirdcrew that the cable management does not seem to be so good right now. There was an Epic render shown in the fall that had ports that faced rearwards at 45deg. What happened to that ?

Can the antenna on the IO box be used with a right angle adapter ? I'm guessing it's a wireless receiver so a 2 channel scratch track can be sent by our mixer friends without a nasty cable. If that's what it is, I'm very happy about it !

Here's one for you "shoulder shooters"...

Jim

Thank you for the rotating handle option.

I'm guessing that it can be moved on its mount. This is great. I'm hoping it can be mounted anywhere, like for example on rails.

Additional suggestions for the handle:

-Oval handle shape instead of square
-Wider surface for a fist but thinner body *
-Zoom rocker :-) - option - small cap for covering it
-Additional control(s) - programmable button/wheel
-Strap over it

*I suggest designing both the handle mount and handle body in the way so the handle can (optionally) get as closer to the camera body/lens as possible, if possible its depth including the mount being the depth of natural curvature of a relaxed fist.
This would be very useful in compact, mini configuration setups, being more ergonomic and better balanced.

I see lots of renders with shoulder mount rigs and viewfinders... But how/where will I be able to attach the LCD when going shoulder mount with Scarlet/Epic?

Just curious because till now I only saw the new LCDs top mounted, like this: http://red.cachefly.net/14/gallery_images/hero_2_large.jpg

But that doesn't look like a nice place for the LCD when the camera is on your shoulder.

3.5mm mini-plugs are on the brain.. and yes to being separate... very separate.

Hy Jim! Hy Jarred! Thanks for answering.
I think Scarlet Fixed Lens is going to be the more buyed camera in the history.

Please, give us a fixed zoom with focus marks, quite "no breathing" and able to be used with a follow focus!!

Mini plugs will be "line" or "balanced"? I supose that Scarlet fixed lens will have an internal mic. It should be nice to be able record an ambient with this mic in one channel and be able to record with one of the mini-plug inputs in another channel. One miniplug for left and one miniplug for left channel should be very good. And one miniplug for headphones.

Can you give us more information about Zoom of the fixed version?

New shipping date?

Congratulations for your work!

Thanks!

I imagine there will still be the option of an LCD Arm so that you can mount it pretty much wherever you like, just like you can with the One.

To elaborate on what Jim said... these cameras are insanely high performance beasts and getting all that performance in a package this small is pretty amazing feat. XLRs would just suck out a huge amount of space and cut performance on the brain.

It ain't called a brain for nothing. :)

Thanks for answering Deanan!

Fully modular has been the repetitive theme from Jim, and on red.com says can be configured in 1,048,576 ways... somehow Im led to believe there will be more than one LCD mounting option :)

Soo, I know this is still early in the stage, but if this handheld rig was setup for cine shooting with a matte box and follow focus, won't it be front heavy? I know, all I have to say are negative things.

People... AGAIN, this is just one possible configuration. Yes, if you put all the weight in the front it will be heavy up there. But move it around a little bit and tadaaa! :umm: I think this has been addressed enough.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like the shoulder pad fits under the modules behind the brain. With that setup, it doesn't seem like you could get your shoulder under the cog no matter how you adjust the back end especially if this camera is lighter than the R1. Like I said, I could be wrong. But I feel that what i said has a valid point. Sorry i didn't just profess my adoration. I own a Red, I obviously believed in it enough to buy it. But I feel that we should suggest things we feel are issues.
