  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new RED Pro Program...

This is great.

a 14mm, a 135 or 150.

I think down the road a long zoom would be great. Like a 25-250mm.

Maybe a 10mm or even less.

Absolutely loving the likes of these primes, especially as prices of used and old primes are beyond the point of ridiculous for what they are. These lenses look the goods...

But i'm also hoping that in all this excitement the pressure on the guys making the 18-85mm does not ease up, clearing the backorder on these would be nice first.:weight_lift:

I would love a really solid 10:1 pro zoom. But I'm a bad market indicator. I only intend to buy what I want to always have on hand for recreational shooting. A box of primes to me says "include in the rental budget" not "write a check". :D

But chalk me up to the masses voting for an 18mm and something to bridge the gap to the 300.

Jim, I'll buy the whole set when available, but still anxious to get the 18-85 that I ordered way back when. Very exciting news from you folks.

I too would rather see the 18mm and 14mm over the 21mm. Something between the 100mm and the 300mm would be nice. The price tag is unbeliveable if they are remotely decent lenses. Since I assume they match the 18-85 in quality or exceed it then you lot have surely lost your minds. What are some of the close focus distances?

Very exciting.

Prices on the mini-primes would be awsome! Also wondering if you guys have decided to develope a mini red zoom in near future?

heh heh heh.. i told you it would be a good week :)
Wow, so genius: When will the set be in the shop again? I remember about two years ago, I already ordered, as everybody know .... no delivery chance until today. So: Will that help, to be in the first line or how does it works this time?

Thanks Jarred for an update

The lenses look killer.
I also would like to have a 14mm in the set.
What about the FF lenses for the future epic?
Do we need to use our canon L lenses at the beginning till the RED FF lenses are ready?

If I check RED's lens trackrecord it will take over a year till we will get a FF lens for a new FF epic. Dont take this as a harsh critic. I think it's just the way it's gonna be and we all have to plan in advance.
So will we be able to put new Canon L lenses on a Epic FF. And will we be able to adjust f-stop and focus kinda like with the birger mount?

Please give us some infos about that. It's very important for future lens purchases.

Tim

Sorry if I missed this.. but how will orders be handled? Reservations first..and then by Red serial #?

Or will you at some point open the floodgates for first come first serve reservations after delivering for those who have them reserved earlier?

For me the most important thing is that all lenses have the same T stop, so the 18mm T1.9 would be my most wanted lens not on the list. If it costs a little more to do, fine. But we know it can be done thanks to other manufacturers....

Thanks for listening as always Jim!

Paul

I've made a quick calc-sheet to see what effect those new lenses have depending on the format/body used. I hope I got it right :gun:

BTW: Why can i not upload PNG pics? :angry2:

Underwater wider is better for us

Underwater wider is better for us

What other focal lengths would you like to see? We are considering a 14mm and a 21mm. Thoughts?

Jim

For all of the underwater shooters, wider is better...

14mm or wider....

10mm... 8R

It'd be very reassuring to most potential buyers, I think, to know that an 18mm of the same, or very similar T-stop is coming, or at least is the next lens on the drawing board. As far as I know there has never been an indication since the primes were announced last year, of that being a possibility.
To me it's strange that Jim is throwing things open to other suggestions before indicating that that one is in the pipeline.
At this stage I'd have to be thinking about getting the 5 Red primes and an 18mm ultraprime, which is a bit of a shame.

A few notes from costa rica

A few notes from costa rica

First of all led me congratulate everybody at the Red team for all the fine work you are all doing! Even if we are two generations away from what is now in the ‘burner’, and hopefully by the fourth quarter of 2009 we might see something that actually works.

The camera that was shown on the last picture, IT LOOKS GREAT; I think it’s missing a lot of attachments, but you already known that and that may change a bit. There is a curious thing on top of the lens; it could be an auto focus thing or something else, eventually we’ll know.

The lens-are something to work on, because the controls on the pins are different than the Arri, and you want to have your own glass (at a cheaper price). I think that the wider a lens can be can only help with the Steadicam on the shoulders, mounted on a ‘dolly’, and hand holing. On the other end the longer and faster a long lens can be; that’s a good thing. For the steadicam having some king of remote control would be a ‘good-thing’. With the MV-V-AR System there is no place to put your hands on the camera. It should have a remote ‘view finder’ so the ‘focus-puller’ can stay close to the ‘camera-operator’ but not right on him.

I hope you are preparing the Epic and Scarlet at the same time, for me, I’m interested in the Epic. I always think that the Second Generation always works best, and I’m sure whatever you guys come up with ‘will be the best’, I can’t wait, but wait we must! The sensor for the S35 is the right size, it will be closer to 35mm film, and it will be a stop faster than the current R1. I hope Apple has the ‘computer-power’ to process 4K footage at 16 bits (I known that the current plans call for 10 bits on the Epic-X, but one can only hope) by the time your new camera comes out some of the ‘specs’ ought to change. I’m still trying to figure out how Quantel figure into the ‘work flow’, but they ought to have it worked out by the end of the year, maybe the next SMPTE Show. They keep on writing papers on the subject, but I still don’t get-it!

The FF35 sounds like it’s still going to take some time, I’m working on the script now for ‘Picture’ that can be shot the ‘old-fashion’ way but with the latest gear. But for a film that will be heavy in ‘special-effects’ I waiting for the 617, it will be shot in 3D, and my original idea of splitting the sensor in half will work, by that time they should have the ‘computer-horsepower’ all worked out. Good Luck, and just like everyone else I’m waiting for ‘next shoe to drop’.
