  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Red Formats chart

I've been searching for a while, but no luck, where's Gibby when you need him ! Oh yeah, he's picking up his Red, lucky b...

Anyway, I recall some precise info about the look around in both 4k and 4.5k, but I may be mistaken, maybe it was only in 4k (the info, not the look around).

Cheers,
Damien

full frame FPS

full frame FPS

I shoot music videos and commercials. Im going to be honest here as much as Im excited by this camera. The consensus amongst myself and other professional cameramen is that we are concerned about the limited full frame fps. In our fields that stuff is used all the time. I can't tell you how much we use 36 or 40 fps on a Arricam LT for commercials and mv's. I hope these frame rates will be enabled at some point by an update. The windowed DOF will not match full frame without comprimise. A 435 will be in use even more now. I know Ive mentioned it before on other forums but I really think this is being overlooked. Hopefully its in the works.

The camera can't be everything to everybody. No matter what they put in there, there's always going to be things that they leave out. So I'm just happy that they released the cameras on time (after a few schedule changes).

I'm sure there will be a bigger and better Red Two coming down the pipe.

Don't get me wrong. There is much to be excited about. However, Red in a overall sense is way ahead of schedule in a overall technological timeline. There is plenty of time and if the future fps is limited by the hardware of Red one I would pay more or wait until it was capable of doing what a sync 35mm body does. I know my needs are not unusual. Belive me. Sometimes excitement can cause us to overlook certain things. This is not to say Red has done many many things right.

There may soon be the ability to shoot 2K Redcode RAW "Scaled" from the full sensor size in an update. This has beed discussed as a way to allow for faster FPS onboard. If you're shoting Commercials and MVs that should be plenty of resolution and a reasonable trade off.

Er...

I don't see anywhere on that chart that says we can record 2540p onboard. 2540p is listed for teh RAW Port option. Onboard (REDCODE) recording options are still 4K and 2K.

Absolutely. It's more about the DOF and field of view than resolution. Even theatrically, as long as its not a wide shot, this should suffice.

Oh and I apologize for my sloppy typing with my novice iPhone fingers.
