I just got a "New Software available" message and it prompting me to update to "QuickTime 7.5" with this message "QuickTime 7.5 improves application compatibility".

Then saw Jim's message about Build 16 Beta being released in a day or two...

Is this latest QuickTime Update have any relation to the new Build 16 about to be released? Seems quite a coincidence of release timing between the two... If Apple updated their QuickTime to work better with Build 16 that would be just mind blowing...

If not not then should we stick with QuickTime 7.4.5 in fear of issues with Build 16 or is it safe to update to 7.5?

Your computer might be set to check for updates weekly? Maybe one of the Alpha testers or someone at Red can say what version of Quicktime they are testing with Beta 16?

I would hold short on 7.5 till 16 is released. I have heard of some non red related issues involving video hardware.

Shawn, Jim announced "within a day or two" earlier today.

Poor Jannard is still living in denial. What he meant to say is that you put your $1,000 up and take your number until he decides that other people who put up there money later deserve to take your spot ie: bumping my 50-150 order in the mid 200's, which was issued when I put up my money, to the mid-400's, which was to help out the early Red One buyers who didn't have the moxie to buy the lenses early on and cried about it to management.

To paraphrase Jannard, nothing is sure about dealing with Red until you actually get the item in your hand.

I will test 16 Alpha+Qt 7.5 today. Stay tuned.

While this is not true... I can certainly make it so. What is your name?

I made the mistake of loading QT 7.5 on one of my machines. It would not allow extracting the sound track. Since that is all QT is usefull for on the PC and since it is the only way to get the sound, I was really upset. I finally found a version 7.4 and was able to get my sound again. Avoid 7.5 like the plague! I posted this earlier, but there was no reaction.

I am playing alpha 16 footage in QT 7.5 on leopard 10.5.3 just fine.

All our production machines are still on 7.5.4 until we have battle tested other applications.

But, so far, so good.
