Here's a new cut of a PSA scheduled to start running today in San Diego.

https://vimeo.com/57170963

We shot in 4K HD with a RED One and Zeiss Standard Lenses.

We used available light and a plain white background as an homage to Richard Avedon's "In the American West"

All actors were shot on different days at the same time (1:30)

B/W Film Stock Emulation and down convert to 1080p was done in FilmConvert software before editing.

Edited and final CC was done on AVID Symphony and sharpened at 18% using BORIS Unsharp mask plug-in.

The holiday version of this spot got over 500K hits and raised alot of money through donations to this very worthy charity.

ENJOY!

Looking very good! Im also a still photographer and you came pretty close to Avedon's look! I like it! Why did you use the Boris Unsharp mask and not Redcine-X?

All the best

Nice job. Noticed a few minor mask/crop issues though with the white at the top of frame.

Thank you!

I agree Chris.

I see them too, they are so far out of the "broadcast safe" area, that I think the editor just left it the way it was.

For internet or "new media" usages, it IS a good practice to make sure your image is clean from corner to corner.

Hey Peter!

THANK YOU!!

For this project where we were really working on getting the "Avedon" look, we chose to process directly in FilmConvert from the R3D files, it saved an extra step that wasnt needed.
The BCC un-sharp mask is an AMA plug-in that is used over the timeline on another track and does the job in real time.

Aaah, I see.. It was the skipping of RcX I was confused about :-)

As I said, very Nice job! Maybe I should take a look at that filmConvert, looks like it is usefull.

all the best

FilmConvert is a very unique piece of software and the great thing is they just keep adding features to it ( automatic free updates)

I think you can download a trial version and give it a try!

ENJOY!
