Everything I've read says Lytro failed miserably with their small stills camera.

Maybe Jim and his fellow patent holders have made great strides in doing that in a small handheld container such as the one shown and then un-shown by Ketch.

Oh too bad. I missed Ketch's post, I guess it self destructed too. I love the secrecy though.

Have you guys seen this yet?

Looks like these are the patents we've been hunting for. Registered to the usual suspects ;)

If this is the case, I called it like back in 2008-9.

A modular cellphone, with a brain, upgradeable screen, upgradeable camera... Could be, yea. RED name is hella strong. People who know them know that they definitely make the coolest toys...

But how does this tie with helping the environment? Well... you definitely CAN say that upgrading instead of ditching is the coolest way to recycle (and hot-rod your device, hehe). I mean, RED was the first to go modular, and allow people to send in their "devices" to get the new one :)

Could this be it?

I've been all about making planet saving films for 30 years. You need to see my latest, about Large Landscape Conservation in the U. S. and Africa. Lot's of lion and elephant footage from my Red Dragon. www.wildways.us Wild Ways can be streamed from the PBS NOVA website, broadcast as Earth Day special on April 20.

I am REALLY psyched that you, Jim, are getting into conservation. It's the most important task of our generation, leaving a functioning diverse planet for those to come. It's great to have a mover and shaker on board, because I see you get stuff done.

The original Lytro got some attention, but it didn't have enough resolution for printing, and couldn't capture motion pictures, so it ended up being stuck in between two niches without satisfying either one, really. Hence their push to develop a cinema camera using light field technology... which shows some definite promise.

Doesn't anybody like a surprise?

Sorry Richard...

Either way, it might only be one of and not "The" Jim's "new Project"... :)
