  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New pricing...

Is that revisionist history or did it really happen. '-)

It really happened! The norm is for announcements with red to be a little early. It's hard to keep a good thing under wraps. :)

You've got Board Creds, so I accept it as truth. (Maybe I'm remembering the old red)

15% depreciation per year is a fantastic deal for a business. At 2% rental rate (standard) You would only have to rent it out 8 days a year to still make money over time.

True enough. The numbers don't lie. But some people paid full price 2 years or more after the release date.
But then they were buying 2 year old tech. These days you have to make your money back in 2 years or your cooked.
Unless your buying anvils...Like Red Primes LOL. (which I own an love BTW best $ decision ever)
The Red Epic, much as we love it, is based on the RED One MX imager.
It also has a few "issues" that we work around, like on-board sound, fan noise, lack of Pro-res/DNxHD dual record (oh wait...).
Call them "teething issues" for a new design, but they need fixing. The Meizler module will take care of a number of these.
A new sensor may have global shutter too. My crystal ball is broken. But my point is that we could see as much as 30% discount on the
2011 Epic model.

Bring in 2013! New sensor, ASICs, re-valued Modules and for the love of pete, a Redray projector under my Christmas tree!

I keep forgetting Red is on Pacific time.

2 years? No way. 6 months or your cooked.

Here is something I know Jim is thinking about: You don't want a Red camera to be something that no accountant or financial advisor would recommend you invest in because sudden huge price drops could be around any corner.

Many people with actual real $$$ will cease to eb potential customers if that happens.

Anyway, I'm sure Jim will be reasonable - and I hope nobody gives him crap for it.

On the other hand Scarlet can remain cheap - as can used MX Ones - so that new people can get in the game, while Epic remains the Ferrari, perceived as such.

If there's no big time, high end world, then what would people still struggling in the low end (as I did for many years BTW) have to hope for? More of the same low budgets and low pay? Is that really your dream?

Give it a rest Rob, we have heard you. Personally I don't believe that equipment should be high because of "our accountants". Power to the people I believe. I'm still amazed that we have much more powerful computers than they had making Jurrassic Park and for me that has only been a good thing. To feel that the only thing limiting your creations is your own skill and not (as much) your bank account. :)
Myself I cherish the possibility to in the future to invest in several Epics and here of course price will make a difference.

No matter what the new price will be I'm ready to order, hopefully with some extra lenses.
Cheers!!!

you're accountant tells you what cameras to buy? are you serious? and let me get this straight, on the other hand scarlet can be cheap you say? why? cause you don't own one. dude seriously decisions been made. get over it. I hope you don't give jim any crap if you feel he is not being reasonable.
