  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New PL prime sets and zooms prices

a fujinon zoom for 89 000 ????? how could that be? how much are the ang optimo zooms?

Then again it sounds like RPPs will be hard to beat in sharpness, illumination etc... but it could turn out to be you pick the Iluminas when you might decide to trade a little performance in other areas and pay a little more all for the added speed when you need it.

I guess the cost of Super Speeds might might also adjust drastically.

The Illuminas have better resolution than any of the Reds and with less distortion.

I've seen both projected, and although the illuminas performed admirably in their prototype stage, your statement is not indicative of what I saw.

i used the fujinon 10-100 and 6-30 zoom on a f900 for a low budget feature in india and they performed very well. quite sharp. i saw it projected at TIFF and i was pleasantly surprised at how well it held up. (side note: it was projected with a 2k projector) they has a great range and very little breathing.

Feeling the need to weigh in on performance claims regarding the Illumina S35 high speed primes from Luma Tech, Inc.

Perhaps enthusiasm got the best of Mr. Salaff who is indeed an authorized sales rep for this product. However, he does not speak for the management of Luma Tech, Inc. and may not be privy to the most recent info regarding the lenses' ongoing development. The combined effect of people, including experts such as Evin Grant, seeing three prototypes at NAB plus dialog among Luma Tech, our reps and the LOMO factory is that we have folks talking about different things: The lenses as shown at NAB Vs. what we EXPECT the product to look like in final form.

This is a natural recipe for confusion and lends the appearance of making exaggerated claims about product performance. Luma Tech is not out to gore anybody's ox.

The fact is, we have a somewhat different set of challenges in building and marketing a newly designed set of f1.2/T1.3 lenses that offer both high performance and a fairly compact envelope at a great price.
Rather than play for second place, we aim to be at the top of our category.
Particularly with respect to value. Value means performance for the price.
Performance comes first, so we aimed high.

To offer a concrete example, our 50 & 85mm lenses will offer the contrast and resolution of a certain brand of high end cinema lens of the T1.9 variety, but with less geometric distortion. I'm not talking about RPP's but a product that sells for more than $ 15K per unit. And they will do it at T1.3. That's a claim that Luma Tech is comfortable in making.

The Illuminas were not supplied for the SALT test precisely because they are not yet in the state we know they can and will be in a few months. Each prototype shown at NAB had at least one unacceptable mechanical or optical characteristic. Each of these conditions has now been solved and the designs for the 18mm & 25mm will shortly move from computer to build.

We expect the finished product to have exceedingly low geometric distortion (a problem with the 50mm unit Evin saw at NAB), extremely high contrast and color fidelity and superior rejection of flare and veiling glare.

The factory has already furnished us with numbers describing distortion, on- axis resolution and off-axis resolution. But these remain to be verified by OUR OWN QUALITY CONTROL PROCESS, and of course, the eyes of experts and end-users in the market. So we are not publishing them. Yet.

In the interest of the "Big Tent" spirit of openness, we plan to offer the product in its finished state for people to evaluate and compare. When the time comes. If the optical Gods smile on us, that time will be in the third quarter of 2009.

Thank you.

hope the illumina sales rep reviews aren't like the 1st estimations.. one thing we already know.. red has honestly committed their prior price list..
