Hi all. . .

I'm just literally one day old with Premiere CS5.5 and I'm looking for a command that will allow me to flip an image horizontally. (It will allow me to fix a "wrong side of the line" problem). I can't find anything in the menus for this. Is there a way to do it? I do not have After Effects.

When I go into the "clip" menu on top, only a few items are active, and "video options" is not an active entry.

Thanks.

Stephen

Goto Effect + Transform + Horizontal Flip.

Horizontal Flip effect reverses each frame in a clip from left to right; however, the clip still plays in a forward direction.

Hey there, Kwan. . . thanks for the tip. . . but where is "Effect"??? I see no "Effect" menu. You'll have to be REAL specific for me.

What I do see is an "effect controls" button in the "viewer" window for that clip, but there is no "transform" menu located there.

Thanks!

Stephen

On Mac Press shift + 7,

or Check in bottom left Panel there should be "Effect Tab" somewhere next to "Browse Media" Tab.

Or else goto "window" and Click "Effect"

Welcome to ppro... Hopefully you got your answer... BTW Adobe TV also has a lot of free training videos.

Cheers

Okay! Got it! Thanks, Kwan!

Okay. . . here's another question: How do I make this thing render? I hit the "render to workspace" button, but nothing happens. I've got an almost completely red timeline (and RED, too, for what it's worth!), but it doesn't do anything when I hit it.

Again, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

if you want to render to preview the effects you have created you hit Enter (at least on windows but should be similar to mac).
Or go into "sequences" render effects in workarea... now if you want to render your entire work area you need to go to "sequences" and select "render entire work area".

hope this helps.

i usually render by going to file>export>media...

then you'll get some nice options and a preview. you can choose to render right out of premiere, or you can send it out to adobe media encoder and keep working.

i recommend setting some exporting presets right off the bat. makes life a lot easier.

FYI it is red because you don't have a cuda card. There are then two options, render to a file which Paul Herrin answered and render preview files which Fabricio handled.

Cheers

Agreed with Paul

Okay. . . everyone's render advice is not working. When I hit "enter," it just starts playing, but the timeline remains red. When I select "render effects in work area" (the only black option available), it does the very same thing: It starts playing, but there is no rendering, and the timeline remains red.

Any ideas how to do this??? I want to see my effects at work without sending a file out.

Thanks.

Stephen

what's wrong with a file, might i ask? you can render out a version just as quick as it would do it internally... so why not have it on hand?

what effect(s) are you trying to render out? not sure why it would do that, but i'm sure there's a reason, maybe somebody can point you in the right direction.

Nothing wrong with a file at all. I'm just used to a FCP workflow where, when I do a dissolve, I can see it as it will appear within seconds. But, I certainly will try that file approach.

Thanks, Paul.

i understand. obviously, it is nice to just be able to see exactly what it's going to look like without doing anything special... not sure why it isn't working for you. for the time being i would just do a real quick export (just shrink down your render region appropriately in the export media window, and make a draft preset).

Hey there, Alex. . . I don't see a dragable bluish bar above the timeline. BUT, that could be the problem!

Stephen

Fwiw, you can render the previews as you go and then choose to use em in the export. You can set the preview render quality in the preferences menu.

No need to do repeated exports.

This was super helpful guys! Thanks so much!!! I'm really lovin' this program!
