  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Nikon D300s with 720p/24

doesn't the D90 and D5000 already do this?

I own the D300 and I cannot see any reasonfor anyone to buy the D300s even less so for owners of the D300. It's a bad joke really. You're better off buying the much lighter and cheaper D90 which does the same! Makes me angry, when I think of what they COULD have done instead.

The specs for the D700x look more promising - full frame 1080p/24 QuickTime H264. I haven't seen any info on record times - but I'd hope it is more than the five minutes the D300s can capture at full rez. Hopefully, Epic/Scarlet will have hit the streets by October and we wont have to worry about it:)

I think it's interesting what's been retrofitted into the D300 like having dual memory card slots- SD and CF that can both be the primary storage and can span- that's cool. 720p- well I wish that were 1080p but it does have a 12 megapixel sensor so in theory the oversampling should result in a pretty sweet image. And thank god they get it that it has to be 24p, not 20 fps, not '30p' but actually 24p. Big step in the right direction. But I'll wait and see. This is not a 5D Mark II killer though.

All that was in the D90 and it stunk up the joint for video work.

Oh I think even RED would tell you the sensor used matters a *lot* :) but yeah I'll obviously wait like everyone else to see what the actual quality is. If it's no better than D90 there's nothing to see here. But the D300 itself has a way better sensor than the D90 so I have some hope this could produce nicer looking video.

Well, I've just finished putting together a D90 film and I've got to say that even if the sensor is slightly better, the problem with the footage is the low bitrate. If they haven't fixed that then it won't matter.

Also, the lack of 1080p by now is just irritating! But I guess it's sort of okay since I already have the D90 and my brother has a D300 from way back when so no worries about the D300s, sorry Nikon.

Looks like Scarlet wherever you look doesn't it?

Ah- it's hard to tell on that video whether it's mushy dynamic range from Youtube Compression or the camera's. Nice DOF though you would expect no less from Nikon glass.

those videos look good but need to see the real file.

I have a T1i and I love the video it shoots. It shoots 30 FPS at 720, I hope Canon can release a firmware update to allow for 24 FPS at 720p

And 24 FPS at 1080p would be nice too.....smh....
